Oil temp fluxuating

I've noticed the normal temp usually for the oil is around 215F, but lately it goes to 215 and under some mild/hard acceleration flicker to around 201F. I mean the temp just jumps around from 215 to 201 then back to 212 then back to 205 and so on and so forth.

Please help. I've checked the oil and it seemed it was barely over the minimum so i added about a half a quart and it was around the middle. My car is at 7900 miles. Does the car run cooler when you rack on more miles? Thanks in advanced

-Steve

I have 8800 miles on mine, and it always run at 215 in warm weather. When the weather was much colder it ran in the neighborhood of 198-203, depending on the outside temperature. It might just be the temperature sensor, is going bad. I would have it checked out, since it's under warranty.

Mine goes up to 235-241 on hard acceleration, and when it does, I can hear a loud fan noise from the engine bay. Almost sounds like a (quiet) vacuum cleaner!

Sounds normal. If I can hit 240+ in 70-80 degree SoCal weather, I can see it going up to 250 on a hot Dallas day!

Sounds about average mine hovers around 210 driving around town in C mode. It also fluctuates 5 to 10*f. When I start driving more spirited it will jump up to 220-225. Damn 250! I don't think mine has ever seen that, even after back to back passes on the track. Guess Im lucky my climate is a bit cooler here up north.

The thing is my temps have been dropping and rising. When i drive it hard it will occasionally get to around 220's, but lately it's been dropping to low 200's then back up to the normal 215.

mine usually runs at 212F once fully up to temp and cruising speed.
Spirited driving bumps mine into the high 220s, but I can't recall seeing anything in the 230s, but I'll have to check this summer.
I got my car last Fall and just started to drive it again recently and the temps outside haven't been above 80F since I got the car.

I just picked up my car from the dealership after Service A. On the way back on the highway, the oil temperature was hovering around 220. It is a particularly hot day here today. The outside temperature was reading 97 degrees!! As soon as I got of the highway and stepped on it a couple of times, the oil temp went up to 231.

My average in Houston weather is 215 to 225. Only time it went above 225 was after my first oil change at 1100 miles. After hitting 235 it went back to normal. Gave me a scare. Parked the car to make sure oil cap wasn't loose or missing.

I just went out for a drive and went to start the car and heard clicking in the engine. So I revved the engine slightly and the clicking seemed to match the rpm's. I'm starting to think i have a bad purge valve. I'll prob just take it in to the dealer even though i hate them touching my car.

I dont know how hard you race your car but mine also usually runs around 215-220 and when I drive it little bit more spirited it will get up to 237. But I did get it up to 250 when I was really driving it hard.

If I am not mistaken at AMG academy the amg's constantly heat up to 255-260. Thats what I heard.

Took mine to the track, went up to 264...no biggie. I think it all depends on your oil rating, and at what temp it can still protect the engine. I think for Mobile 1, no worries till close to 300.

Don't worry about it, it your fluxuating capacitor makes you travel through time...JK

Mine's hit 275 after several hot laps on a beautiful (HA!) Georgia summer day. That was with the A/C off and heater running full blast.

highest i've seen mines goes up to is 230. Normally it runs 220 and under. That reminds me I need to top off my oil.

Mine usually reads between 212-217. Hard driving reads around 228-230.
Highest it went was 240+

I recently read a thread where boris was having problems with engine tick and it turned out to be a lifter. Do you guys think it could be the lifters not working properly and giving me a misread on oil temp...? It's wierd when my oil temp is at 215F then instantly jumps down to 200F then back up.

No, your lifters have nothing to do with the temp sensor, that is a completely different problem.

Mine reads 215 degrees 100% of the time. I ran the car at the dragstrips a few times and it went to 242 degrees but quickly cooled down. You might have a faulty sensor because everyone seems to get about the same temps.

Oil change ASAP! ya never know.

GO for an oil change, make sure they use the recommended viscosity...nothing to thick.
Then see if its still an issue.
Similar situation on my ML63 AMG
It has cleared up since!
Ill do the oil change every 5k now!
