Engine Light On

I had the dreaded engine light come on today.
My car has aftermarket tune and has always run perfect but today I started to notice it took several seconds to fire up when trying to start, normally it starts instantly. It now has the engine light on all the time but seems to be driving fine. I normally use the same fuel BP and Shell 98 but today I had no choice but to fill it up with another 98 octane fuel (Caltex Vortex 98).
Could I have a dirty batch of fuel causing engine light on come on? It seems strange that this has only happened after I have filled it up with a different fuel than I normally use.

Hey mate, whose tune do you have?

Recently my car was taking a little longer to start too. I havent had any engine lights come though about a couple of months ago, it did, when i refueled from another servo and cleared the codes, its been sweet since (i assume i had a bad batch of fuel).

I have tune from BPS same as yours I think. I am seeing James later in week and he is going to check the codes. Seriously thinking about draining the fuel out and getting a fresh tank of BP Ultimate which is what I usually use.

The fuel i was using was BP ultimate too. Since i stopped using it (ive had issues twice with bp, once on the dyno at BPS) and use shell, the car runs alot better.

becareful driving with the engine light on. I wouldnt drive around too much, better to be safe then sorry.

ps you can get your merc dealer to read the codes and clear it.

Just FYI, the car logs all errors and CEL's, it also logs just how long you were driving with the errors and CELs on. This could come back later on and bite you in the *** if you have to take the car to the dealer for warranty work. Get it checked out as soon as possible.

Had the car checked out today and it came up with error code 03697 (I think). There was no record of this error code in the machine he used, so he didn't know what it was.
Engine light is off and car is driving fine. I think I have a bad batch of fuel.

Yeah, I couldn't find that error code on a list in another forum. But, P03xxx series codes are all engine related.

Good to hear your car is running well with no CEL's.

Engine Light is back on. Car is in Mercedes dealer getting some checks done. They are charging me $200 just for diagnostic check as if it's bad fuel related they will not cover under warranty, I will need to go back to the fuel company for claim.
If it isn't fuel related there will be no charge. I'll keep you all posted

The $200 is stupid!!! I went to the Brisbane Valley dealer, and they had no issues with doing a Diagnostic test on my car to see why my engine light came on. They even cleared the code for me, and told me, my temp sensors had failed. I then got them replaced under warranty, even though my exhaust was modified. Which dealership are you going through? and correct me if i am wrong but you have been using BP98?

My car is in Brisbane Mercedes (Valley). I won't have to pay $200 if it isn't fuel related but if it is I will have to pay the whole bill then get Caltex to reimburse me.
I always use BP98 or Shell 98 but had no choice the other day but to use Caltex Vortex 98, ever since then my engine light has been on.
I contacted Caltex and they will pay the bill if it's caused by bad fuel.

I'm pretty sure i have a bad temp sensor also. The temps jump up and down sometimes from 205-215. Is this what you were noticing? and how long did it take them to fix? Thanks.

Just got my car back from dealer. They replaced the battery as they said it had a Battery Fault code in system. When they checked it it was only charging with 10 volts.
All seems fine...

Random fix...companies should be more open about possible problems. They always know more than they let on. Everyone should now suspect battery as an unusual suspect.

So my Engine light came back on again for most of the day then it decided to go back off again. I don't think it's a fuel issue as the car runs perfectly, the main problem is it seems to take quite a while to start but once started car runs perfectly. It's going back into the dealer for a couple of days.

Just got a call from the dealer, apparently I need a new fuel pump which has to be flown in from the Phillipines. Hopefully this will fix it.

Just got my car back after 4 days at dealer. They said it was losing fuel pressure very badly - under 4 bar and fluctuating. They replaced the LH fuel pump. It definitely seems to drive better and is considerably faster than before but it still seems to take a while to crank over when first started in morning, not sure if this is because it's get colder here. My car has only done 12,000 km.

This is why they don't assume. If you give a client incorrect info or false hope then you end up with more problems in the end. A CEL could be a list of issues why would they just guess without proper diagnosis? Dealers have to let everyone know about the possible charge if the damage was done by the driver, why? Because the time you don't tell them is the time that something goes wrong and it's not covered under warranty and the customer flips out because he was not told about the possible charges.
