fog light chrome cover

Anyone know how to get this SOB off? I've searched and searched and cannot find anything. I just want to wrap the peice in black then put it back on, don't need the whole fog light assembly out.

I see one screw but I think that is for adjustment, right?

I was kinda wondering about the same thing...MB's have so much chrome, it reminds me of a disco ball.

Yes that 1 screw is for adjustment.

It is held on by J hooks. To remove it without any chance of braking the hooks, remove two of the push-clips on the front fender liner. (wheel well towards the front of the car) Then pop your hand in from behind the fog and release the J hooks. 2 min max.

To remove the push clips - pull out the smaller center pin with a trim removal tool or a flat head screwdriver, then the larger ones come out easily.

just had this mod done to my car, i tried to leave the wheel on and go through the wheel well, there was no chance i was fitting my hand all the way up to the fog light nevermind being able to see what i was doing in there, ended up having to lift it up take wheels off take off front wheel well liner and then take front bumper off to get at them, so i would try to just stik your hand in there but it is a very tight and crammed space so it might not work

can anyone give me a better idea of how to get the chrome cover off? I got my hand in there and can sort of see, but can't figure out where the J hooks are located in order to release them.

What about just masking the area and just carefully painting it flat black with a high quality outdoor grade paint? It should look ok, and its such a small area.
Way too much chrome on the front of these cars! I agree... looks cheap and chintzy. It all should have been brushed aluminum looking.

Would rather just take them off, I am sure it is not very difficult. I will try again tomorrow. I hope someone can chime in with some insight.

I may take these off and PlastiDip... any luck finding a better way?

The paint chips off the leading sharp edge of the covers too easily.

You can't just plastidip them without taking them off?

On contrary. This is exactly what I did with my fog light housing. I simply used blue painter's tape to cover the lamp, and formed a cone with newspapers around the fog light to protect the paint. You just have to make sure everything is taped down and whereever you don't want plastidip on is covered. It was easy for me since I have a black c63.

And yes, waaay too much chrome on the car. I nearly plastidip all the chrome except the 6.3 on the fender and the star and two lines inside the grill. I'll post some pictures later on to tonight, since I'm at work.

That was a rhetorical question, I did the exact same thing with mine, except I didn't bother taping up the lights. You can easily peel the extras paint off of the glass once you are done covering up the housings.

I have mine painted black and with a black car I must say it blends in and looks better.

Thanks. Please get a close up. The paint looks great but doesn't last at all.

Thanks again. Looks clean. I like the black I have now. I bought a can to spray some test pieces to validate the black is black enough.

How long have you had it? Does the color hold up well?

I've had it for about 2 months now and the color is holding pretty well. I don't notice a color change because it's black on black, and it's in a part of the car that no one really cares to look. So however off the color is, I still think it looks better than chrome.
