Mobil1 5-40 ESP Formula M in Pepboys

Haven't been to Pepboys in a while. I walked in yesterday and suprised that they carry 5-40 ESP Formula M now. If you guys are using 5-40, then no more trip to the dealer.

please excuse the bad phone pic

No, it's fine to use. Check out this thread. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...il-thread.html

this oil and the 0w40 are both acceptable to use.

how is it the wrong kind, they sell the exact same bottle at the dealer. for a 6.2 you can use either this or the old 0w-40

Manual states to use MB229.5

m1 0w40 is MB229.5
m1 5w40 ESP Formula M is MB229.51

So although it is not unapproved, technically it is the wrong kind.
There is a non-ESP 5w40 Formula M which is MB229.5

Obviously there are still two camps about the usage of oil. I'm not here to tell people which oil to use. Look it up in the AMG forum about oil reccomendation for the 63s. Just notice that they carry 5w-40 now. Since oil price is up, they are about $8.19 a quart in Cali.
