Manual Mode Shifting

What is ideal rpm to shift at in manual mode in WOT? i have redlined a few times while in manual mode as i have tried to wait to till last second before shifting but there is a slight lag so sometimes it redlines, so at what rpm do u guys usually shift at?

I've only had this issue in first gear at the drag strip. The engine rips through 1st gear so quickly at full throttle that I have learned to shift at 6K instead of waiting for redline...after first gear you should be able to redline shift every subsequent gear (even at full throttle.)

+1

if you shift at about 6000 the tack is moving so fast that by the time the transmission shifts to second the needle will have swooped close to 7000.

Kinda OT but lately I've noticed in S+ mode the shifting at WOT is so slow, the to point where I'd feel the car doing nothing for what feels like a good fraction of a second at each shift. Been a while since I've done any more than just spirited driving, so I'm thinking maybe I need to do a few WOT runs to get it to adapt again?

this may be a dumb question but... is the manual mode even faster than sport mode would be at the drag strip?
i can see the advantages on a road course obviously but so far it doesnt seem like the paddles are any faster than than the auto on straight line acceleration. is the only reason to use them the fact that you can start in 1st maybe? i just saw today that around town the car idles at stops in 2nd.

Dont let your RPM reach the redline limit (above 7100 ) when racing. Never do that. Shift early on first and second gear to about 6000-6500 and on each other gear shift below the redlne limit. Letting your RPM reach the redline will cause you to lose power and shifting to the following gear slower. Be careful. It makes a huge diffrence if you know how to shift well. Most people seem not to care too much

Whether driving an automatic or manual shifting past peak hp rpms to red line will slow you down.

I have asked this question in the AMG Private Lounge, during one of their chat sessions. I was told that in manual mode in 1st gear, the car redlines 200 rpm sooner then the actual redline. So, if my memories serves me correctly, the car redlines at 7200 rpm, so you would see the instrument cluster turn red at 7000 rpm.

Good luck NOT hitting the rev limiter in 1st gear at the dragstrip. I found that I need to shift around 6K to avoid bouncing off the limiter (the TQ on this car just tears thru 1st so quickly) and bogging down.

My car definitely shifts faster, and firmer in "M" mode. Don't know if its tune related, but it does. I always short shift from 1st-2nd.

The car makes its max hp at 6800 rpms, and max torque at 5000 rpms.
I would probably shift at 6500, myself. But your right the rpms hit so fast, before you know, your on the limiter.

The limiter light turns on around 5800-6000 or earlier I can't remember...so there is no use for it. But for first gear I'd shift around 62-6500 on street or if strip maybe sooner depending on traction. M mode shifts are faster than S.
