Pls pardon my newbieness but.........I have searched and
I have searched, but there are so many threads that just go into a dead end or have one snippet of info that my mind is reeling.
I have purchased a Sandisk adaptor (and yes, it works with SDHC) and a 16gb class 10 SDHC card so I feel very confident I have the right gear.
Love the forum, love the car but we could really use a few more stickies here with regards to this, importing iPhone 4 contacts, and the various iPod options and compatibility.
No offense, but there is a lot of the "near-sighted leading the blind" when it comes to these issues. 3 good sticky threads would really help.

To expand and ask more direct questions....
What file types are supported?
Is there a maximum number of files?
What folder structure is required?
Is there a maximum number of folders?
What sort of tagging is allowed on the files?
Are playlists possible?
Etc etc etc.
My kids are making me cranky this morning but I do thank you for your help.

What file types are supported? I used windows MP3 format to copy my files over to the card.
Is there a maximum number of files? I have about 640 songs on a 2GB card. The number of files will depend of the size of your SD card.
What folder structure is required? From my understanding their is no file structure needed. Just copy the songs over, the COMAND will put them in alphabetical order for you.
Is there a maximum number of folders? Unknown
What sort of tagging is allowed on the files? Unknown
Are playlists possible? playlists are possible
Sorry, if I couldn't be more helpful.
ie Music < Blues < Ben Harper < Fight for your mind < Oppression
How do you do you set up playlists?
I'm sorry - I am not just being a freak here but rather I have read differing information on all these issues.

My hope was to compile some definitive info and then get a sticky started and make life easier for those who follow in my wake.

Search is a good thing, if you know what exactly your looking for. I understand that it can be misleading reading 50 million posts, when you just want an answer.

What file types are supported? MP3 and I believe no DRM AAC files, but I would stick with MP3 formats
Is there a maximum number of files? This will vary greatly. Since the card needs to be formatted to FAT32, the max volume size (thing partition) is 4TB, there are no SD cards of that size. The Media system in our cars is based on XP embedded (not the same as Windows XP, it was designed for appliances and kiosks and such). As such, there is no file limit. The limit will be based on the size of your files and the size of your sd card
What folder structure is required? There is no required structure, although I would avoid putting special characters if all possible, it causes weirdness. I use Artist/Album name/song name.
Is there a maximum number of folders? Based on a standard file structure, I believe you can only go 254 folders deep (but really, who would create that many folders). I do not know if XP embedded has that limitation.
What sort of tagging is allowed on the files? None
Are playlists possible? Yes
Etc etc etc.

If you want actual details about the unit, go read up on XP embedded..

I'm an IT guy.. (well these days.. I do penetration testing [come on.. let the jokes fly I know they are there] and vulnerability assessments in support of gov FISMA requirements

But the point remains, I am a nerd and I understand these things.

I'm not going to razz you, thanks for providing 604 C63 with the information that he was seeking, as I couldn't.
Penetration tester? You mean, it's possible to be penetrated and not know it? I think there's surgery to correct that. My friends wife had it done after their fifth kid.
Or are you testing to see if penetration is possible? In that case, are you hiring? I have experience in that field. I started testing, purely as a hobby of course, when I was 13. For the first few years, I seemed to only generate negative results but as I got older things improved. As a matter of fact, I actually became known amongst my fellow hobbyists for having the ability to achieve penetration where others had failed.
I got so good that I turned professional and now penetrate for a living.
I'm a realtor.
