Michelin Super Sport review.

The answer is no, it won't throw anything off. You will have much better traction though! I ran 235's on the front and 275's on rears of the OEM 18's with ZERO issues.

I'm running 245/265 PSS.
A given rim width can accommodate a wide range of tires. Two things to consider... too wide of a tire on a rim will result in the sidewall getting less support and you will get more of a more sloppy feeling and more tire roll in aggressive driving. I find that running a tire that technically fits a rim but is at the outside limits (either on the small or large size) impacts the feel of the car. Too skinny = harsh and an overly darty feeling. Too wide = sloppiness and tire roll. The other issue is aesthetics.
My personal concern with going 275 (especially in a PSS which runs wide) is that it may be a little balloony as the 265 "looks" to be about as wide as I would want to go to avoid tire bulge. Having said that, I personally don't like the balloon look so I'm biased... also, with only a 30 profile, there isn't much tire sidewall anyway. I find the 245 fronts actually balloon noticeably more... not bad necessarily, just more.
IMO only, 245/275 work fine on the OEM wheels as long as you don't mind a little bit of tire bulge. On the 18" wheels I wouldn't like the look personally (too much sidewall and bulge is not appealing to me) but on the 19" wheels with such little sidewall it is fine.

Just made the switch today 245/40 and 265/35. The Star Spec's were great tires and I even got 9,000 miles on the rears although they howled the last 1,000 miles or so and wheelspin was horrible. The PSS is a great looking tire once it's mounted and I will report back down the road once I have the opportunity to put them through the paces both dry and wet.

Tread width for the 265 is actually listed as wider than that for the 275. Mounted on 9" wheels will likely yield a larger contact patch with the 265. Additionally any decrease in sidewall height looks better in my point of view especially with the drop from the H&R springs. I have run the 265/245 combination for several years now and just feel comfortable with it on the stock wheels.

Everyone is very happy with the SS on the Viper Club forums also.
OE Michelin's in-house testing, performed at the Michelin Technology Center, helped identify six key areas in which the Michelin Pilot Super Sport outperforms its predecessor, the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2:
Road-holding on dry surfaces: Tests showed a 1.5-second gain on a 2,700-meter closed-circuit track.
Braking on dry surfaces: When decelerating from 100 km/h to a full stop, braking distance was shortened by 1.5 meters.
Road-holding on wet surfaces: Time was reduced by 2.5 seconds on a 4,100-meter closed-circuit track.
Braking on wet roads: When decelerating from 80 to 10 km/h, braking distance was shortened by 3 meters.
Total mileage on the track: 50% more laps.
Total mileage on the road: 10% greater distance.
but, there is no head to head testing between the Pilot Super Sport and the OE Pilot Sport PS2 C1 Viper tire

RE-11 has better dry grip and a firmer sidewall which makes the tire feel sharper with less perceived tire rollover. PSS is better in the wet and has a quieter and softer ride. Also, the RE-11 held up better for me at track events.
IMO... PSS is for the street with light track duty. RE-11 is you spend more time on the track or prefer a firmer and sharper performing tire. PSS is the best overall tire (all things considered) on the market at the moment IMO.

gthal - Thanks for the comparison.
I would agree that the PSS is the best performing street tire that remains civilzed enough for daily driving.
PS2 was my favorite street tire before.
Did you find the noise on the RE11 objectionable for daily driving?

Do the new AMG's come with the ContiSportContact 5P?
Anybody running the 5P?
According to this review, the 5P is very good.
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2011-Autoreview-Max-Performance-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm
However, the review clearly states the PSS beat the other tires in dry performance, so it's the one to get if thats the priority.

Noise level was fine for me. Others have experienced something different.

I would definitely place more confidence in TireRack's comprehensive tests over a website that lifted that piece from another website (AutoReview, I believe). That whole review is a bit retarded if you ask me - why would you place the majority of the scoring on wet performance for a "max summer"?! I didn't bother to check out the full review but it could be location & climate related for the unusual scoring criteria (say, if it's UK based) but either way, it doesn't seem like a fair and objective test when the criteria doesn't suit the intended purpose of the tires being tested.

Clearly the scoring criteria was not dry performance focused.
I'm just wondering if maybe the Conti 5P is a decent runner up.
I would early retire my PZero for PSS in a heartbeat if they made the rear size I need.
I thought new AMG might be getting Conti 5P and some might have opinions to share.
For instance, I cant say anything bad about PZero except that I'd much rather have PSS.
I was actually surprized how well PZero perform and wear as I would never consider buying them willingly.

IMO, they are the best Max performance summer tire in rain/wet available compared to what I have owned (Hankook V12, Potenza RE11, Potenza RE050 PP, Conti 5P, Michelin PS2, Pirelli Pzero). In addition to their wet/dry ability, my PSS now have 5,000 kms and 2 track days on them and they look hardly worn at all. They hold up VERY well.
