Pulled over today
Got pulled over this morning on the way to work. Cop gets out and says somewhat angrily "I pulled you over for two reasons - no front plate and tinted front windows."
Me: "Well I think this is factory tint and is legal."
Cop: "Just because it's factory doesn't mean it's legal! License and registration!"
I can see him calling in my info and then he begins to write. I think great, looks like I'm going to get two tickets. After about 10 minutes he comes back and says nicely "I am filling out a field report that states I informed you of the no front plate violation. I'm not including the tint since, heck, at least 50% of the cars on the road have front tint. I won't cite you for the front plate. Have a nice day."
Amazing. I guess my clean driving record and the fact that I don't look like a rapper made a difference. Or perhaps the fact that I just picked the car up yesterday from the body shop after getting hit by the female texter (a Utard from Utah) meant my luck was due to change.
Think I'll play the Lotto this weekend and see if my luck holds!

Nice outcome.
I never got pulled over for my tint and it was fairly dark in the front. I had many cops drive by and even look into the window and then they would just leave me alone. Surprising, too, because I look like Little Wayne.

SD cops are not bad. If you are respectful and they do not see anything bad on your criminal record, they can be very cool. I get a lot of warnings as I always ask for one.

Jinxed myself!!!
I got pulled over a couple of hours ago by Texas DPS. NO FRONT PLATE! The officer was pretty cool and in his bubba tone asked if I knew I had no front plate on the car. I wanted to say the AMG engine ate it the other day, but I just confirmed that I knew there was no plate. Received a warning.

I got pulled over for talking on my cell when I wasn't even talking on it. I told the cop my car even had a phone kit and I will show him my call logs. He wasn't having it. When I told him I would fight the ticket he wrote me up for the tint and also failing to update my address lol. I didn't even know that was illegal. Anyways he didn't write me up for the phone, but I had to remove my tint and when I went down to the CHP office and showed him he said "where is your proof of address change?" I was like wtf? I didn't even know that was a fix it ticket so I had to wait for the dmv to update it's records and bring down the paperwork again! All for doing nothing I hate when CHPs cant accept when they make mistakes. I also only had 30% tint!

Some cops are supper nice, a few years ago, I’m getting on a freeway on ramp with my 944 turbo and as I get on the freeway I instantly change 3 lanes doing 130’s MPH when I look back and see the CHP right behind me so then I make 3 other lane changes intently and pull over before he even puts his lights on.
the CHP then pulls behind me walk to the car and says, is everything ok here?
I say huh everything is just fine, but I figured your going to pull me over for the stunt I pulled so I might as well save you the headache.
Cop says you realize how fast you were going?
I say huh I was going pretty fast and really did not have time to look down with a big Kool-Aid smile on my face. I then apologize to him for doing it on the street and say the car just took over me.
He then tells me how much he's always loved these cars and asks what I’ve done to it. He then gives me a lecture and lets me go.

Have the tint laws in CA changed since I moved away the past 17 years? It used to be that no film was allowed on the front windows. I think, and that is a big "think" from what I was told that NV doesn't allow more than 50% shade. But it is so hot here, cops don't really bother with it.

California's laws SUCK!! No tint on the front windows SUPER STRICT DEQ
In Oregon you can have all windows tinted 35%, EXCEPT the windshield. We do have the no front plate law as well but I haven't been messed with yet (knock on wood)
One thing is for sure, if I am getting pulled over I am getting a ticket. I have NEVER been given a warning...

Guys, let's give the OP a break. Let's face it, who is more likely to look suspicious to an officer, a guy in a suit and tie or a someone with baggy jeans, possibly tatoos, blasting loud music, etc? Right or wrong, that's society's perception.

It's good to hear about a nice outcome for a change, instead of getting tickets
