Service B-Brake Fluid
Hello everyone
My service B is due and my dealers in London are charging staggering £435.
Also they told me over phone that break fluid needs to be changed and thats £80 on top of it.
well I dont want to mess around with my breaks but is there any chance I could get the same break fluid online? as i'm sure it is going to be much cheaper.
Can I empty it myself or should I get the car to garage?
Part number, OEM brand name.... would be appreciated
Also anyone knows any cheaper dealer who could do service B up to 80 miles radius?
Thanks

Brake fluid is time interval only... 2 years.
There are a number of good brake fluids youncan use. Mercedes is actually quite good. Motul is excellent.
Buy it and have an independent shop do it for much less. This seems very high.
Yes you can do it yourself. Use a pressure bleeding system or a friend to pump the pedal. No different than a 1970 MGB.
Research the order, not sure for right hand drive.

The order has nothing to do with the side you drive on.
The order is furthest wheel to closest wheel from the master break cylinder. It is really easy, and not even that dirty if you keep your wheels clean. If you can get your car up on a lift, you do not even have to remove your wheels. Just slip some tubing over the bleeder valve, and pump the pressure bleeder. I bought mine for about $50 on amazon.

Mort,
The Blue has a higher boiling point, and is Dot 4 compliant. The thing that I like most about it, is when your doing a brake flush, its easy to see when the old fluid is purged from the system.

Or immediately prior to any vigorous road circuit workout, owing to its hygroscopic properties.
I’ve had excellent results with Pentosin’s -MB approved- DOT 4.

Before we keep twisting more people on this topic please confirm what car are you talking about, a C63 AMG ?or the car on your signature which is a 09 c220?
As far is the 80 british pounds for the brake fluid that is spot on with the rating of any merecedes Benzs dealer in the USA, how do I know? because I personally contacted 4 MB dealers(1 in Tucson and 3 in Phoenix area) and they all gave me the excat same price of $130 for flushing the brake fluids.
You really don't have to do the brake fluids every two years at all, I don't know who "invented " that maintenance interval. Maybe if you go a few road courses in which the brakes get too hot then I can see having to change the fluids but otherwise you could wait another year (I did refuse my brake fluid flush because my fluid was pristine).
Last but not least and in regards of the 435 bristish poounds for service B, don't feel bad, I was quoted $790 plus tax throusgh Mercedes Bnz of Tucson (Arizona) by 2 diferent service managers which if you do the math is similar price of what they are asking you.
My price includes the air cabin filter, air filters and brake flush. I hope this helps you some. Good luck!

For those that don't know what hydroscpoiic is, it simply means that it absorbs moisture, from its surroundings. i.e. Air, Rain...etc.

The correct word that matches your definition is "hygroscopic".
Splinter above spelled it right.

The MB fluid is $25 per liter, need 2. I flushed my brakes in (my) usual manner with vacuum draw @ 25 psi off air compressor into a vac "can" (home depot). Been using it for years. Then to avoid the "star" electronics assist to empty the ABS reservoir I went for a drive and acutated the ABS (one sie on blacktop , other on snow or wet grass) Then repeated brake purge. The cabin filter not yet done, Anyway $800 chokes me and is unacceptable.

I was also requested to change the brake fluid on my service B and for $150, it is not worth messing with doing it yourself and risk a warranty issue.
Sure I could have waited probably a year but I got a discount on my service B from my SA. Maybe the 2 are unrelated but I think not.
After all we bought a $60K car so $150 every 2 years is really peanuts in the whole scheme of things.

Your quotes are spot on with my local and only mercedes dealer in Tucson. They wanted $130 to flush the brake fluid when in fact the fluid looks pristine due to me not ever braking hard.
I was quoted $790-800 for my service B. I ended up going to another dealer in Phoenix and I did a la carte service(choosing whatever I wanted) and it was only $256.

Or
You go 4 years and the dealer tells you components in the brake system are rusting because of all the moisture in the fluid (which still looks fine).
$130, if including the fluid, is a fine price.

New dude indeed. The requirement to replace the fluid every 2 years has nothing to do with how hard you normally use the brakes. It has to do with hygroscopic nature of the fluid. The boiling point continues to drop, so after 3years you have that brisk drive through some back roads and then are going down the highway And you need to panic stop from 75mph, you get massive brake fade from boiling fluid.

I never had any issues with brakes related to moisture even though I know excatly what you are describing. I Insist that my brakes are fine, Can go another 2-3 years fine....
It reminds me of when you go to the dealer and they want to replace your windshield wipers. The wipers might be in perfect condition but just because it is on the checklist the dealer might insist you to change them. Same thing for the air filters and so on. I know this is all part of preventive maintenance but often you must use a good judgement. At the end of the day everyone does what they feel better.

^^ I agree with u. I will pass my brake fluid flush on my service B this coming spring. My car only have 5000km cuz it's my Sunday car.. So another year won't hurt.
My Lexus had 70 000km when I changed my fluid & pads. So I'm not going to let the dealer tell me my brake will fail after 2 years & 5000km.
As for the wiper blades, my friend got his replaced w/o his permission & he told the dealer he hardly drive his car in the rain (2010 model).

Haha...you will love this the container of MB DOT 4 PLUS recommends annual brake fluid changes for best performance. Boiling point at least 500*F Dry/356*F Wet.
The ATE Blue seems to recommend changing every 2 to 3 years depending on model and operating conditions or when the wet boiling point drops to 180*C (356*F)

Sounds like MB fluid is practically equivalent to ATE Blue/TYP200.
I am of the camp that a well maintained car will have brake fluid changed every 2 years.
As for every year, the people who need that, dont need MB to tell them.
At the very least, change fluid when you change pads.

Brakes work hard, their equivalent HP is much higher than your engine.
