I had a continuing problem with my check engine light which the dealership (Knoxville Mercedes). They couldn't find the cause. They couldn't find their a#$ with both hands. I took the c63, 2009 model, to Buckhead in Atlanta and they found the problem in less than ten minutes. Blown intake gaskets. Got her back home swapped the filters back and no check engine light.

Yes I'm running OEM filters actually new ones. Not going back without the charcoals. It was driving me ****ing crazy. Why would K&Ns make it better? It would just make it worse-more air. It throws a lean code with more air-charcoal delete. When Jeremy comes down next time I need a new reflash.

Yours is a different case. From day one when I removed the charcoals the CEL came on. This is when it was stock. Same problem after tune.

To get the full effect of charcoal delete you need to get the ROW airboxes that do not come with charcoal filters and have much larger air inlets compared to the US version

Not too concerned because I am getting a tune this weekend which will get rid of the CEL!
UPDATE: 09 P30 with a build date of 09/08.... As mentioned I removed the carbon filters about a week ago and the CEL came on within a day. Then, this past weekend I got an OE Tune and again within a day the CEL came back on. Then, I replaced the stock filters a couple days ago with AFE filters and I still can't get the CEL to go away. Unfortunately I threw away the carbon filters otherwise I would just put them back on...

Any suggestions before having to head to the dealership? I just double checked to make sure the filters were seated properly... I was told that my model year is prone to a known manifold intake issue with the bolts and gasket...

That was the same thing that happened to me. Took her to Buckhead where the deal with a lot of AMG's. It was the intake gaskets. Took the the carbons back out after I got home and re installed the AFE's. She's fine now. I just had to find the people that knew what they were doing. Before I took her in I put the filters back stock as they advised me to.

UPDATE for everyone with CEL!
I took out my charcoals and got CEL. I ignored the light and drove with a CEL for a year. Dealer took it in once to try to fix, but after 2 days couldn't find issue. But suddenly 2nd time they took a look at it and FIXED IT!!
Paperwork shows manifold leaking in cylinder bank 1 and 2 causing lean code. so they replaced pressure regulating valve.
That did! I've been CEL free for 5 months now!
Tell them to check code and perhaps even this paperwork. :-)

Hope that helps anyone with CEL.

Lightbulb Charcoal Delete

Removing the Charcoal filter will by NO means throw a engine light.... A over oiled filter will...a normally oiled k&n filter will not....your hesitation and all around funkyNess after removing charcoal is MOST likely coming from air box not being seated properly or intake hose clamps not tightened down thoroughly enough. People looking to pull charcoals and install k&n filters for a tad more pull should have no worries they will save you money in long run... you should know I am certified tech and have built many performance vehicles.

Mine was intake manifold gaskets. No problems since. New air boxes and Mass Air Meters. Runs fast. Kleemann headers and 93 Octane tune.
