Not the straight line , but the turning.
Can it beat m3 at the conner or track?

Not yet. It still needs to lose some 300 lbs, get rear LSD, have stiockier tires, perhaps wider wheels and rims and some better weight distribution and more emphasis on suspension tweaks.

There was a show on the other night on Speed Channel, Car Sceince, that discussed and demonstrated the importance of low Center of Gravity in turning a vehicle. The C-Class has a higher center of gravity and a less advantagous weight distribution than the M. Power is only part of the equation.

Guys like me who are moving from an E92 M3 to a C63 AMG coupe don't like to hear this from guys who have extensive time in a C63 . It seems the reports on the '12s have been very favourable compared to the M3 and that would reflect my limited experience.

So, what is it about the C63 (the 2012 coupe that is) that would have people buy the AMG over the M3? Is it just the power/torque issue?

The reason why I bought a C63 is to have fun, that's one of the main reasons. Loads of torque and an all around great car.
I was looking for a car with quality and beastly characteristics and the C63 was it for me.
I actually drove an E92 M3 for over a month and I was very impressed with the handling, but lacked in the power department.
Does the C63 handle as well as the M3? No way, but that's nothing a set of KW coilovers cant cure.

If I wanted a car with surgical precision I would've bought a GT-R.

That B-Pillar in the Sedan does wonders for structural rigidity.

Until Mercedes builds a capable enough chassis for their entry-level lineup, they won't out handle or out-feel the M3. Coilovers don't matter, putting fatter tires on it doesn't matter (as much).

Same here. Just wanted a fun V8 N/A motor. Love hearing the exhaust. Also wanted a sedan.

M3 is a great car. Just did not want to have to keep the revs up to get to the power.

2010 C63
The coupe and the sedan weigh nearly the same.

In my mind, the difference between the C63 and M3 is similar to the difference between the CLK63 Black Series and a 911 GT3. For 95% of the people, and 95% of the time, the AMG is going to be more fun, more usable around town and faster around the track than the M3 or the 911. But for someone that knows what they are doing, the M3 or 911 will be faster at the track. Maybe by a lot. To me, potentially being faster around the track was not worth living with an M3. Around town - that is, 95% of the time - the C63 kills the M3.
