Pics of AMG Academy Pro Event - Red Bull Ring
Guys,
Just to bore you all, thought I would post some pics of AMG Academy Pro event which was held in Austria last month. 1st day was terrible as it rained and this track is one slippery bi-ch as it has an older surface with lots of rubber laid down. There were a few offs with one CLS buried up to the axles in the gravel-pit. Drove a standard SLS the 1st day and then took a few sessions off in the morning of the 2nd day as I had arranged some more seat time in the SLS GT3 towards the end of the day. Nothing like hitting 7200rpm down the straight in the GT3 to wake you up!
Red Bull is a great track and the event was a blast as usual.

Did you drive the C63 coupe? If so, can you share your impressions on the suspension changes, whether they help handling?
Also, does the new 2012 sedan handle better than the pre-MY 2012 version?

Did not drive the sedan so can't tell you how it handles in comparison to pre-2012 year models.

I drove the instructor version of the Coupe which has modified headers, intakes etc so the car can keep up (in the right hands of course) with SLSs etc when they are using them in classes. These things are amazingly fast...way faster than any C63 I have seen or driven. The Coupe is blast period. It feels more direct and tighter than the sedan with less body-roll than sedan. It feels much more nimble which really shows on the track.
Did not drive the sedan so can't tell you how it handles in comparison to pre-2012 year models.

Thanks for sharing, great pictures!
I'm hooked, looking forward to doing the advanced training towards the end of the year and then hopefully the pro next year.
No Masters training program with the SLS GT3 in the states though

Let me check on whether the GT3 will make it state-side. I am meeting the head of the Academy next week in Laguna and will ask him if this is in the plans for 2012. The issue is whether there would be enough demand for it for them to bring the car over. Also they would need to look at liability issues and also to be candid whether the demand is willing to pay the $ to use the car. It isn't cheap running the car and they would need to cart over the crews/spares/parts/pit equipement etc.

Dave - can you try and see if there's an actual set production number for the C Black Series? I love the looks, but if they're going to be true limited availability vehicles I might have to pass.

The GT3 is always a blast. To be honest it is getting hard to go back to a street car after driving it as anything else just seems boring and so much slower. I am sure that this has alot to do with all the sounds you get in GT3.
I am at AMG HQ the week of Nov 21st as I have a custom seat fitting for GT3 with HWA (racing division of AMG) and they tune most of the AMGs like the Academy's C63s. The season is over so I am sure most of the cars will be in the shop been tuned so will see what pics I can get. Maybe even something special as the lot in front of HWA is where they park all the prototypes of new cars they are developing. I am also having lunch in AMG Private Lounge while I am there with the head of Marketing/Branding at AMG so any requests/questions post away and I will see what I can do.

Is ceramic brake an option for C63 black series? If yes, is it also 402mm rotor as option for SLS and E63?
