Raced This Today
Shortly after the pic below was taken, I followed this guy to a stretch of road on a private property which is designated for roll on racing and we did a few pulls.
Edited to add: I think this was the V8 version because it seemed pretty even. The V10's have single exhaust pipes on each side, right?
He seemed to get the jump each time (ran without honks) and I could stop his pull when I'd hit it so we were pretty even. I thought it was the V10 at first because of the wheels he had on it. Anybody else run an R8?

Yeah, it was super hard to tell who had the faster car. He kept getting the jump but I seemed to be able to stop his pull. Now I see that the V8 R8 traps at 110-113+, so I'm thinking I want to dyno my C63 and make sure it is making the power it should be. It feels pretty quick but if my C63 is supposed to trap 113-116 in the quarter mile, I should have been able to reel him in harder? I know with a tune (70 more horses), I would have smoked that R8 as it was very close today.
Edited to add: I'm seeing a few tests that put the V8 R8 trapping around 113 and change so they are very close stock to stock. This driver seemed little and I figured I had 100 lbs. on him so it seemed to have played out as expected.

Does your car have the P31 package? I would be very surprised if a P31 car did not pull on a V8 R8. C&D clocked the C63 with P31 at 120mph at the quarter. I have driven R8s before and they did not feel subjectively faster than my M3 and a P31 C63 should easily pull on my M3.

Mine is just a stock non-P31 09 C63 with forged rims. No mods. So it is looking like he had a strong stock V8 R8 that the mags have trapping around 113 MPH and I have an average non-P31 C63 that traps around the same. The only difference being that I had slightly less unsprung weight than stock (16 lbs.?) and more sprung weight than an average driver with nothing in the trunk (100+ extra lbs. between driver and items in my trunk at the time).

These are roll on races not 0-60 runs. The 0-60 runs from a dig are so much more surface/ driver/ launch dependent than roll-on races. Those races really come down to a similar comparison of how they stack up in 1/4 mile trap speeds (unless the driver is so bad he picks the wrong gear in the R8).

Some of you may be interested in this video from Car and Driver whereby they race the 211 E63 Wagon (507 HP 6.3) against the V8 420 HP R8 at a dragstrip. The E63 wagon pulls on the R8 each and every time. If you watch it doesn't even seem to be close. Here's the video:

The R8's in general are not necessarily better performers then many of the other cars in its class or even the super saloons. What it does have going for it... is style

ive raced an v8 r8 but from a roll and was able to beat it pretty solidly with a fully stock c63 and no p31 package. Not sure how id fare against a v10 but would love to race one some day and see how i would do

It sounds like a non-P31 C63 with just a tune would land between the v8 and v10 R8's in straight line performance. Not too far off of the v10 though.
