Need help choosing tires
I picked up a 09 c63 about a month ago. I've been driving it pretty easy but when I push the car, it slips a lot. Im guessing the previous owner never changed the tires. Im not really good at checking the treat wear. Im thinking of purchasing new tires but seeing how many people have stated that theirs wear out quite fast, Im wondering what setup would be best.
Option 1: Summer Tires all year long until Winter comes.
Three choice: 1.Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
2.Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1
3.Hankook Ventus RS-3
For winter Tires I was looking between Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3 or Dunlop Sport 3D. Or should I just go with the Blizzak LM-60.
Option 2: Buy All Season Tires. I was looking at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS and the Michelin Pilot sport A/S Plus.
If anyone has had any experience with any of these tires, any input would be appreciated. I live in NYC by the way and the snow isn't too bad but I do slip a lot with my 335xi and I have slipped with my C3004Matic in the past.

I have the Blizzak LM60s and they are great so far.
Whatever summer tire you choose, you should be fine with the Birdgestone or Dunlops. If you do a search you'll find lots of info on tires. I have the Advans from Yokohama as they came with the car, and after 5k miles the rears are done but the fronts are fine. You can go 265 in the rear no prob which will help slightly but no matter what you put back there, this engine has a lot of torque...yay!

Do NOT do all seasons (or, commonly known as "no seasons" as they aren't good at anything). I found the RE-11s to be amazing in the summer... quiet, comfortable and tons of grip. In winter, I would go either Dunlop 3D (if winter is very mild) or LM-60 (if winter is a little more harsh).
My bet is if you buy all seasons you will regret it in winter months and also you will regret it in summer months.

I have a few hundred miles on a set of ExtremeContact DWS's and I am really impressed. I have a CLK55, and dry grip is adequate. Wet grip has been fantastic, and I have yet to hit snow. They're quiet on the highway, and very comfortable. I'm sold on these already and will keep getting them until they are no longer made.

you really care that much to waste your time and mine posting that. I've searched it plenty of times, I just wanted to know what people think about my choice.

I think that tires have improved a lot over the last few years (like everything else in this computer age) and all seasons and winters have improved the most. Let's face it - they had the farthest to go. Market penetration for winter tires in the US is something like 3% so it's not a surprise that they weren't given much emphasis. Now that summer tire R&D is pretty much entering the land of diminishing returns and places like Quebec are mandating winter tire usage look for that to change. This is part of the reasoning behind the shift to calling them WINTER tires instead of SNOW. You don't need to see snow in order to see a benefit.
The days of all seasons being good for nothing are likewise coming to an end. We're seeing a specialization there with regards to whether the emphasis is on spring/summer/fall usage or fall/winter/spring. They are getting pretty damn competent in fact so long as you are using them as a '3 season tire'. This would depend on where you live and how you drive. I personally really only care about the winter wet, and have no intention of driving in the snow. As a result I use the Conti DWS and am very pleased. I will use something else late spring thru early fall. This is because I am in the Pacific NW where spring and fall can definitely see some rain.
In the tire section there is an excellent sticky from the guy at TireRack about what his choices would be based on their testing, and what the best values are.
And to the guys who have no more advice than use of the search button:
Dudes, I get where you are coming from if this was a more specialized topic. And yes, we do have tire threads AD NAUSEUM - I'll grant you that. But unfortunately that is sometimes the problem that makes you ask. There are TOO MANY threads and it all just turns into goobledygook. Be patient. If its buggin you, just leave it lie and someone else will pick up the ball like I just did. Yesterday I would have told this guy to cram his lug nuts right up his wheel well

Oh, and on the winter side those Blizzaks are the best value and are very good. They'll take you anywhere. Don't go all in cash wise on the Pilots and use the extras for some tires that'll take advantage of that hot NY summer asphalt.

I don't know if they are properly sized for your needs, but the Michelin X-ice2 has similar ice/snow performance as the Blizzaks (they are the two best) and much better tread life and fuel efficiency.

Those x-ice2 are great in the snow and on ice. If you aren't in that kind of weather tho.......not so much.

how about the Potenza RE970AS Pole Position. According to tire rack survey, they are a lot better than the continental extreme contact dws. Has anyone tried those?

The original Pirellis rears went away at 6k with wife driving gently (old story). Went to the Hankooks at half the price and am getting twice the mileage. In winter I had Bridgestone w 60s for two years. They worked great the first year, but marginally second year due to insufficient tread. You must keep plenty of tread on the winter tires. Now am on Michelin Alpine (Greenies), but cannot really evaluate as we are in a snow drought at lower Cascade elevations this winter.

yea I might just go with the potenzas. Judging from how little they last on our cars, I can choose different ones next year.

I dont understand what the problem is. If u have an issue with ppl posting about a thread already covered, then go make a complaint. If ur eyes dont like looking at it, look away bro. The thread has a title so u could have just moved on to the next one. I didnt ask for advice on finding a thread about tires, but on certain tires. I lookes at over 12 threads and saw nothing that helped me, so i made my own. Deal with it

Having owned two sets of both Blizzaks and Dunlops 3Ds, my vote goes with the dunlop wintersports. Better dry handling and better snow/ice traction IMO. I have 3Ds on my C63 presently.

as having the dws before i can tell you that my car chewed up the rears and spit them out within 7000 miles, i would go with summer tires then buy good winter tires, get the most traction in both scenarios

Just an update, I decided to go with All-Season Tires being that we hit January in NYC and it only snowed once in November. I chose the Potenza RE970AS Pole Position. I got to test them out in all conditions. On dry weather, they are great. Noise is very low and they stick on turns pretty well.
On wet conditions, they do slip if you punch it from a standstill but I expected that. They slip for a quick second but regain traction right away. As far as lane changing while it's raining, I had no problem. They did not slip at all.
During the little snow we got here in January around 2-3 inches, it was fine. I didn't have trouble getting out of a parking spot. If I would accelerate too fast, it would slip a bit but if you drive it carefully, the tires were fine.
Overall, I really like the tires. They are great in performance and have exceeded my expectations.
