c63 first car?!
My eye's have been set on a e46 2006 M3 for 6 months now until I found out that one of my closest family friends is selling a 2009 c63 AMG for only $30,000 with about 25,000 miles on it! He is selling it so cheap due to family issues/he needs the money ASAP.
Here are my questions:
1) Do you guys think this is "to fast" for a first car?
For many years now I have been extremely fascinated with cars. I've had my learners permit for 4 months now and all I have been doing is driving. I learned how to drive manual and everything. I would consider myself a good driver but the c63 is a BULLET I mean would this car be a little TO fast?
2) If I do end up getting this car is it really THAT bad in the rain/snow?
From everyone I have spoken with has said that this car is absolute garbage in bad weather. I hear you can't drive the car with the slightest bit of snow!
Thanks guys if any of you could answer my questions that would be great!

if it's in decent condition, with even an engine in it. BUY IT. i guaruntee you will regret it if you don't. there's no such thing as a car "too fast" for you, every car can get you killed. it's up to you. i had a c55 when i was about a year older than you (i had a fast car as my first car, sort of fast, to me at least) i got in alot more trouble with the slower car than i did in my c55.

Thats a really good deal for sure.. Way too fast for a first car/ 16 year old.. If you dont respect the car, then you could seriously injure yourself or someone else.

Arguably though, best to be in a fast Merc than a fast clapper. At least in a C63 you have airbags for your knees and a 5 star ANCAP rating.
Saying that, any car can be dangerous, it really depends on your attitude. If you don't want to die, you won't.

Here in germany you may drive a car with 18 and I know how I drove with 18. I was also interested in cars a long time before I bought my first car.
I drove my first car exactly for 3 month, after that I wanted more power
So I bought a 1996 C230 Kompressor with 193 hp.
To make it short, I crashed this car 2 times.
I think it would be better to buy a normal car at first where you are not so sad if you cause an accident
Just my opinion, but have to decide on your own. Wish you much luck on the road

Not saying anything about age, but the C63 is seriously fast car that is also very tail happy. I have a lot of respect for it every time I get behind the wheel... I would even say that a E92 M3 might be a more manageable car to own as a first car.

Try getting a few insurance quotes first. Not sure about for you guys in the US but an 18 year old new driver in a C63 (and for that matter an E46 M3) would be near enough as uninsurable here in Australia

+1 on all points made. Great price if you can afford buying and owning the car. Owning means insurance rates, tires, winter set is a must, oil brakes and such.
Saying that, I'm 30 and a conservative driver for the most part, but c63 will get me in much trouble very fast. For someone who is not experienced this may be way too much unless you are very diligent for the first 5 years of driving and don't punch it.
And you may say it now, oh I'll be careful, won't go crazy. But I guarantee you that in three months you'll think you are so good and you can handle it all, and that's a recepie for disaster. So if you are going to own something like that this young, never forget that your life is more important than a few seconds of fun,

If I may add something, the C63 AMG, is a car to be respected. Especially if your 16 years old, this car will get you into trouble real quick if your not careful. My mother doesn't like driving either of my AMGs, as she says they accellerate way to fast. But she's understand them now, and just takes it easy. All RWD cars in general aren't that great in snow. But if you have the right tires, and your gentle with the throttle application, then it's no problem with experience. For a novice on the other hand, you better be wide awake, always leave the traction control on...period. These cars can accellerate and decellerate very quicker, on dry pavement, snow is a whole different matter. Respect the driving conditions that your in, sometimes slow is too fast. Would I buy a C63, if I was real young and had the money.....hell nooo.
The C63 will make you either a very cautious driver, or a lunatic driver.....it's your choice.

I'm going to most likely be the lone individual who things a person who has been only driving on a permit for 4 months (no matter what the age) should absolutely never get behind the wheel of any M or AMG vehicle, or for that matter any crotch rocket motorcycle, or any other "high performance" mode of transport... to possibly include bicycles if your legs are that good...
This may sound really mean, but if you want to kill yourself (not that I am saying you will, but), that is your own choice, but when you put yourself into a 3000+ pound piece of machinery and make a mistake, and with only 4 months experience, you WILL make mistakes in any vehicle, you are risking other peoples lives.
Obviously the above statement is valid for any vehicle, however, in a high performance one, that likelihood significantly increases.
I'm probably not going to make any friends by saying this.. but I think this is a horrible idea....
That said, you say you are responsible, well that is all fine and well, until group mentality sets it.. ie your friends are in the car with you.. that is when stupid **** starts to happen and people die..
I will leave you with this.... Reflect on what happened before you make the decision to buy a 3000+ pound murder weapon.. that said.. if you do go through with it.. enjoy it, and be responsible..
5 dead in M5 crash...

I agree with the last 2 posts. Any cars over 300hp let alone 451hp should not be in the hands of a teenager or even low 20s IMHO. This is a recipe for disaster.
I had about 5 accidents by the time I turned 25 and I thought I knew it all. We all make the same mistake.
Please resist the temptation.

BS. There are plenty of people that don't want to die, and end up hitting ditches, poles, other cars, etc. due to showing off for bystanders/friends/girls etc. If the OP can resist temptation and peer pressure every time, then he should be ok.
Um, we don't ALL make the same mistakes. I certainly haven't been in 5 accidents.
Perhaps you are just a really poor driver?

Jasperr,
If your really serious about following thru, the AMG Driving Academy will get you up to speed. They have various programs for basic, advance and pro drivers.

DO NOT get that car. It will be a $30k smear on a median. Anyone here who tells you different is insane. No way are you capable of handling or respecting the power of that C63 as your first car. I

In the dry, if you have a level head on your shoulders you'll be fine, just don't expect your friends (and girls) who ride with you not to egg you on. If you can resist the temptation to cut loose, you'll be ok.
Winter driving is another story. I drove my C63 w/ snow tires an entire winter without issues, but that's after having many years of winter driving experience. I wouldn't try it without having at least driven through 5-10 winters.
