Oil Consumption Question
Has anyone ever heard of this?
If the engine is replaced does anyone know if this would have a negative effect on my resale value?

Sounds like the dealer is working with you on this which is a good thing (though I would question the accuracy of their consumption test after just 60 miles of driving).

But 1.5 qts is a bit much, I think. Both my C63 and E63 use about 1/2 - 3/4 qt between oil changes, so I'm very fortunate. I just added 1/2 qt to my C63 last week, and I'm due for a oil service in 1700 miles.

Thanks for the advice!

Now your car is 1 engine 2 men lol. Doesnt that go against AMGs philosophy?
I'd say F that and ask them for a brand new complete bottom end from the factory...
You really want some mb techs rebuilding your engine that are used to doing everyday maintainence?
Get it fixed right the first time! New complete bottom end from factory or a new engine.
at 19,000 miles the cylinder hone may look good to the naked eye, but its worn down. Both the cylinder and rings wear into each other during beak in. How is this supposed to happen if the cylinders are already worn down?
The idea behind the hone is it creates an abrasive surface that wears smooth as the rings come in contact with it. The rings I believe are tapered so that they also wear nice and flat against the cylinder wall.
Without a good ring/cylinder seal, blow by creates excessive pressure in the block which pumps more oil into your intake to be burned off. Also, excessive oil is left on the cylinder walls being burned off too.
I'd drive the **** out of it as soon as you get it back. Break it in nice and hard. If that doesn't work, new engine time.
So, what does the Dealer say is wrong, why is it using oil, are the rings worn, is the bore glazed, are there any marks in the bore, what has caused the problem?
If the O.P. could be supplied with answers to these sorts of questions, then maybe he would be better placed to know whether what M.B. is offereing will do the job.
What sort of relationship do you have with the Service Manager?...Do you think he's "on your side" & looking after you?
I must say, that at this stage, a new set of pistons, in simply a honed bore, does seem a little "light on" for this type of engine?
But maybe a good chat with your service manager can ease your concerns.
Cheers, Pickles.
Im interested to see what comes out of this and how MB handles this.. AND if replacing these parts is going to ultimately be the answer to your oil consumption. Thanks
