Im currently using K&N's but wasn't expecting any HP gains just wanted to get a little extra air flow.
Ive heard great things about BMC filters and AFE Pro Dry S filters. Might wanna give those a try.

I too, have heard great things about K&N filters. I used them in a previous clk of mine. I cannot not honestly say they gave me any HP improvement, but I did notice a slight louder exhaust note. But nothing I could feel.....now I'm using BMC filters which are used in F1 racing.
Same conclusion. I'm sure they flow great, but exactly how much more than stock, I can't say.

AFE filter! The have dry and wet filters, if you have concerns with your MAF. Also the perimeter seal on the AFE does not block off so much of the filter like the KN and is made of poly.

I think he means these: http://www.pipercrossusa.com/
They look like a foam filter
I remember seeing this comparison a while ago between cone filters, i know they are not replacement filters but they are made off the same materials.

here is an old thread about it as well

Pippersross filters are "spunge like" filters. They will allow the air to flow freely, unlike BMC or K&N, where restriction is reduced but air is still blocked. With pipersross filters Air flows freely while all the unwanted particles are absorbed. These filters will give you 6-8rwhp on the M156 platform.

I've never understood the logic behind claims like this. Perhaps it could be true true if the filtering media were much, much thicker (meaning inches thicker) but with these shallow filters how can all the particulates be trapped while the filter flows more freely? It just doesn't make sense on any level but maybe I'm just missing something here...

the answer is easy. Try out each filter (obviously you havent), have a dyno run on all filters, and you will know for sure.
The stock panel filter are made from paper material, while pipercross maintain a foam material.

Careful guys. There is a vast literature out there on paper vs other media air filters. Paper is superior in trapping dirt and adequate in all but racing. Believe it or not the best paper found in the summary I read was AC Delco, as in Chevrolet...I imagine MB knows ... Don't know of any factory issue foam or oiled media filters. No stones please.

Stock filters are fine. I gave up on aftermarket drop-in filters a LONG time ago. Save your $ and frustration with possibly triggering CELs because you over-oiled the damn thing after cleaning it and ruining your MAF sensor (yes, been there, done that & so have many others before me). It's just not worth the hassle.

If you cant tell the difference between any of those filters, either your @$$ is way more sensitive than mine or you are hallucinating.
