2012 Car and Driver Lightning Lap Results

The CLS is a great car for sure. It surely didn't "feel" faster when I drove it on the track as it felt LARGE and HEAVY but you "knew" it was fast. Great car for those who don't track and for those that do, still capable but it wouldn't have a satisfying track feel ... IMO... due to size and weight. Numbers aside, very few would pick it over the C63 for track duty but it is a silly fast car regardless.

2010 C63
Three things stand out to me:
1. The C63 Coupe is not as fast as I was hoping/ thinking. Still did well pretty, but should have been much faster than 1M and those f*****g Dodges (I am sure Car and Driver was not padding the BMW's numbers).
2. The Panamera Turbo is an ugly, all wheel drive fat-*** - but it is smoking fast (faster than a Cayman R!).
3. The Mustang Boss 302 ain't no joke.

Every test i have seen has been different aboug the boss. A lot of test show that it doesnt live up to the hype. Also the c63 coupe doesnt seem to be that fast. The magazine that shows the times, u can see the c63 sedan is right on back of the coupe by less than half a second

The CLS was a blast to drive at the AMG Academy at Laguna Seca. It was also a cool sight to be in the pits watching 4 of those things go screaming by after the slowest turn on thr course. Great sound.

It is still hard to wrap my brain around the Panamera and CLS performance on that track.

The tuned E63 might be even a little more menacing with a little better dynamics. Yet to see the new CLS and E post times in the same article on the same track

I drove the CLS at Laguna Seca also. Surprisingly fast but I suspect that the brakes wouldn't last long if driven hard for several laps.

Compare the C63 peak speed ( the CLS as well as both have the same Achilles heel) with the other cars with similar lap times and the issue is obvious. These cars need bigger and better tires than what AMG provides and the untapped potential is much greater than any of the other cars on this list. I have used the stock P Zeros, Star Specs, R888s and R6s and each step yielded a 2-3 second gain on a 2 mile track. I would bet money that if the C63 came with a set of PSS 275 & 255, the same car would run 3:02.

Guarantee it, bigger rubber along with pads dropped 5 seconds off my times at Eagle's Canyon here in Texas, which is a little bit more than half the length of VIR. Granted, I'm not as a strong a driver as the people that likely tested at Virginia, but the PSS 275 & 255 I put on made a HUGE difference. The CLS is running (I believe) 285 & 265 also.

When I traded my Boss and my CLK550 in to get the C63 I got MSRP (from the dealer!!!) for the Boss even with the miles and the abuse
