Why you should NOT "Street Race"
Let this be a warning to all of us. This really hit home with me because I know both of the racers involved in this story. Unfortunately, 1 of them isn't around anymore. Only 26 years old... Both of them were driving 1///M's, and go to the track often (so it's not like they were total rookies to driving at high speeds) but that's besides the point.
There are NO guarantees, especially off the track. So think of this thread, the next time some idiot starts egging you on to race him/her. It's just not worth it.
My heart and prayers go out to Cam's family... Really sad. Seemed like a good guy, an ex-police officer, he had his whole life ahead of him.
In speaking to one of driver's good friend/co-worker, they were both travelling at about 120ish, on a long straight stretch on the highway, but somehow, Cam's car still managed to lose control, in which he eventually rocketed 200 feet off the highway in smashed into a parked tractor trailer. The trailer ended up 75 feet from where it was parked from the force of impact.
Terrible...

I knew CJ personally, and we had numerous mutual friends. Its very sad what happend. We will never really know what happend that night, nor shoudl it matter. In the end some one is gone, and his friends, and family have to deal with that. Its fortunate no one else was hurt, or killed. Condolences to his family.
Btw. CJ was driving his ESS 625 SC E90 M3. The 1M was his friend.

It's really unfortunate, but I shared this story with a purpose, and I hope the message gets out to everyone that even thinks about street racing.
It's just NOT worth it, and even more so, there is no excuse for RACING.
It's bad enough that we have to always be on alert for crazy drunks, senile old folks, bad drivers, etc.
I CRINGE every time I see cars, especially younger kids, revving and ripping down the highway at speeds well over 100.
Yes, thank God that no one else was hurt, but even CJ's passing could have been avoidable.
There's no easy way in grieving the loss of a loved one, but I guess the least we can do is learn from what happened...
Thanks for the reply~

It's not "NJ", it's just people thinking that they and their cars are invincible and push their cars to and beyond the limits, hence resulting in horrific accindents like this one~

Great point... the only thing I would add is that in many, if not most, cases it is the driver that is beyond his/her limit and not the car. Lots of people (many on these forums) think their "limit" is much higher than it really is.

So let me get this straight;
A former cop street races and looses his life: based on the link provided.
What really does that say about departmental selection? A lot IMHO based on reports of behaviorism of departments when citing others violating the law.
Sorry, but I'll be the descending voice here. He knew the law. And, I guess, its OK to violate it.
Darwin took care of this one.

Having said that, someone died and the Darwin comment is uncalled for and insensitive IMO especially given the OP and others know the guy. Lots of people... I would bet even you... have made a bad choice or two in their life and everything turned out OK... he wasn't as lucky and regardless of the bad decision it is a very sad event.

Cop or otherwise... making a bad choice is not restricted to any one group.

Entitlement syndrome (like so many off that generation) and betting on the fact that he did get caught a favor could be called in .................
I would feel somewhat sorry if his history wasn't involved, or for someone without a silver spoon.
But not in this case.

So sad. There's so much more that can go wrong than right when taking these kind of chances. Even professionals make mistakes and none of us are invincible.
Hopefully we all can take something away from this and be safer drivers.

Let's not get into politics about "departmental selection and entitlement ownership" issues..
THAT was totally not my point.

damn sad . in his 20's . makes u think how many times that we all have dodged bullets flying on the highways . dont matter if the guy was a ex cop or what . WE all know the feeling when another car rolls up next to you . Hard to resist .
