Would you buy a "new" 2010 (and for how much)?
Things like...
- flat spotted tires
- drivetrain that has just sat for a few years
- weak battery
- other?
The other thing is, it's hard to figure out what a good price would be. I mean, it's new, but not new at the same time. Car has the three typical options (MM, Seating, and Premium). What do you guys think would be a good price?
I'm just a bit confused about WHY a C63 would sit untitled for 2 years, with under 100 miles...odd
The price I agreed to pay for the car was $62,000 with a full (4 year) warranty. New E90 M3s were selling for closer to $80k at the time.
I took delivery and within 100kms traded it back in after the car threw two codes and needed parts flown in from Germany to fix what I thought were pretty serious issues with the motor. I bought another 2008 with 30k kms on it for almost the same price and I don't regret it.
I bought my 2010 C63 December 31 2010. Car had been sitting for a long time and dealer had lots of 2011s on the lot and coming in. Gave me a great price so I jumped on it. Car has been bulletproof.
Personally if the price was right and you have a reasonably good relationship with the dealer you are buying from I would go for it. If there are serious issues they will show up right away.
- Car was apparently just never sold at the dealer (this used car dealer that has it now was not sure why it couldn't sell), but "it was driven periodically" (hence the 86 miles). This dealer purchased it from the MB dealer last week.
- This then creates two more very relevant facts. The gas guzzler tax is gone, because it's not a MB dealer "new" sale anymore, AND the warranty starts NOW. So it has a full 4 year 50k mile from right now. Both are wins for sure.
Price wise, the dealer is listing at $13k below sticker. I quickly got them to $14k below. Funny the above poster mentioned $16k below...that's exactly what I countered with. Still a tad above my budget, but I figure with a FULL warranty and a "new" car, it might be worth the little extra.
They are running my BMW through their system to offer me a trade on that, so I'm seeing what they say there too. It's a luxury type dealer, so they may have an interest in my coupe...or they may just low-ball me.

My only regret with this car is that it doesn't have the LSD. But, the more I'm reading, the more the Quaife sounds like a good option, or even the cleaned up MB OEM units that are selling online from one of the tuner companies now. It also doesn't have keyless go, which is no huge deal, but drives me nuts that it doesn't come standard on a $70k car.

It may be hard to argue 2010 trunk money with them, or anyone, since it's a once and one thing. The fact is, people could have (and did) bought 2010's with mega trunk money, and sold them later for a profit. Makes me think 20k off sticker is a huge stretch.

So you are saving 2100 from the gas guzzler tax right?

- 2010 discussed above: New, with 4 yr/50k new warranty. Options are MM, Premium, Seating. Black (non metallic), black leather, and black wood.
vs
- 2011 with 17k miles: CPO (so in my mind it's the same time period of warranty as the new 4 year warranty starting now on the 2010). Options are MM, Premium/Lighting, Seating (basically the 2011 combo that gets you the same stuff as the 3 option packs on the 2010 above), PLUS the lsd, keyless go, and backup cam. Metallic Gray, light gray leather (which I think I really like, unless it's awful to keep clean or something...seems like it would be less leather leg burn in the summer!), and tan wood (which I'd want to swap at some point for black or carbon).
They seem like such a wash in my mind...wondering if the unique light leather and the LSD/keyless/cam don't give the 2011 an edge? The black paint looks mean for sure, but the metallic gray is nice too, and so much easier to keep looking clean (basically same color as my 335).

as for color, I see one around town that has the gray metallic it looks sick. Black is nice too but a ***** to keep clean (mine is black)
the only thing I cant stand is the burl walnut trim...just looks so out of place but you could always wrap that.

I think there is something cool about getting a "new" C63 (because I could not afford a 2011 or 2012 new one), but, if all else were equal, I think I would slightly lean to the 2011 too.
Two other things regarding the 2011...I would be the THIRD owner (private sale from a current owner who got it CPO, and I'd transfer CPO to me for a small fee at MB, I believe), which I know isn't awesome for resale, having numerous ownerships. And also, the 2010 is flat out for sale right now. The 2011 is someone's (who just might be on this forum
) who hasn't fully decided on the sale of it. So, the 2010 is a bit of a bird in the hand.I appreciate the thoughts and opinions from all!

Just my $.02
But you're right, a "new" car is really a huge plus. Which means no abuse ever. That's way too attempting.
