We keep the connection between the left and right side as Mercedes intended, we've seen that there's no sense in putting it before. Our full system have the the sports cats in the front section.

It has always been my understanding that the X-pipe should be placed as close as possible to the engine. Not exactly sure why the Supersprint system puts it back in place of the resonator except in terms of packaging the various options they offer and to facilitate the bump up and over the cross brace in the front pipe.

In the stock system the h-balance pipe is in the resonator as the second cats preclude it from being any closer to the engine. The tuning of the sound of the exhaust may also figure in the use of an h-pipe vs x-pipe but I think cost and packaging are the main concerns favoring the use of an h-pipe as well as sound.

If you have headers and are catless, wouldn't it make more sense for the x to be as close to the engine as possible?

There's no real advantage in placing a the x-pipe 1 meter closer to the front...it's more of a packaging issue.

Here's a picture of my current exhaust setup. 3" all the way up to the end....just waiting on my super sprint to get here to replace the 2.5" exit with it's 2.75" and bring on the blower!

Hey, nice exhaust! Do you guys know if there are exhaust systems available with a switch? I'd like to be able to pipe it down a bit when the wife and dogs get into the car.
