Thinking about lowering my estate

This would be the first mod on my C 63. Winter is nearing its end and it would be nice to get a little bit sportier look to the car.
I have no experience whatsoever about lowering vehicles. Even the terminology is (for now) quite unfamiliar to me. I suppose coilovers would be the way to go?

Now, to those of you who have lowered your cars:
a: how much does ride comfort suffer?
If yes to a, B: Does it have to suffer for 20mm or are there viable options?
c: Problems?
d: What setup do you recommend? I want to be able to adjust the suspension back to a good level for next winter.

Any other input is also welcome. Please bear with me, i'm really unfamiliar within this subject.

H&R coilovers are the way to go . a lot less money than the KWs and you can raise and lower it as much as you want . it does not effect the ride quality IMO . i have also never had a problem with mine

Does the Renntech ELM work on E63's?

I have it on my 55 Estate, and it's pretty much the business.

Alright, thanks for the info! Do you have winter driving experience with it?

Also, is there anyone in this forum who completely is against aftermarket lowering parts? Then why?

Also, mono-tube vs twin-tube? Why?

Ive lowered mine with H&R springs and the ride is decent but the drop is aggressive, im rubbing in the back with 265's it might be my forgestar offset as well.

All right. In terms of drivability, 265 back tires or a lowering? That is if the 265/275 rubs with the drop. But since you've used springs, is this also a problem with the coilovers? Like i said, i know nothing about this.

Anytime you plan on dropping, wheel offset and tire width will have to be taken into consideration.

If you plan on staying with the stock wheels/tires than a drop shouldn't be a problem.

You can thank Mercedes for offering a torque monster with rear fenders suitable for a Toyota Camry.

All kidding aside, many people have lowered without any rubbing. You just have to take the amount of drop, wheel offset and tire width into consideration.

BAD has this right - H&R coil overs are an amazingly cost-effective mod - huge bang for the buck. I recommend them w/o reservations.

Alright, thanks everyone for your inputs Seems H&R are the way to go. Here in Finland we just have a vastly poorer aftermarket parts market compared to North America. Maybe just best to order the parts online and install them at an MB dealership. I once brought my M5 to a normal shop to install scoops. They forgot to put some part back so my car went into limp mode..i think it was an air hose or something like that. Like stated earlier, not an expert, i just love driving. Maybe i should study a bit...

Next question though: What model? Mono-tube or twin-tube? Street performance? Street performance SS? I do want the car to maintain the (semi) comfort level it has now.

I don't see anything offered By H&R for the C63 Estate(wagon). They do offer a coilover for the 08 and up sedan that might work and it is only available in the Street Performance category.

You lower your car if looks and better track handling is your outmost importance. Other than that I would avoid it. I'm not completely against it but you will be encountering issues along the way. Possible clunks, change in alignment, etc... When reselling, you will also lower the value and usually people with estates/wagons, regardless if it's AMG they want there car comfortable most of the time. Plus why mess with AMG technology?

Go for it. The old suspension comes back to you in a box anyway. 3+ hours and the OE suspension is back on your estate when/if you sell it. Sell the used coilovers...

I opened a new thread and then remembered i did this one a while back. I found this http://www.kw-suspensions.eu/int/kw_ddc.php Seems to be using the same tech as M-cars EDC?
What do you guys think? Winter is coming so i would like the option to raise the car above current stock level but when spring comes lower it below. Is this possible?

yes, with KW HLS but it is quite expensive.
Or you can just buy normal coilovers and have them raised to stock height before the winter and lowered after the snow is gone

Or just lower the **** out of it and don't care about the snow

Are You asking about KW HLS or H&R coilovers?
