Is LSD a must???
Question for all gurus here.....
Is the factory LSD...aka limited slip differential a 'must order' option when speccing the car?
Many thanks....
Was reading some of the earlier posts.... Some people swear by it....
Anyways....assuming the car does NOT have an LSD installed.... Can i buy a quaife, renntech LSD and install it aftermarket?

This method is cheaper too...
You dont NEED an LSD. There is little to no difference at the 1/4 track. If you were to road course the C63 I would say its a must. But for street performance and 1/4 mile its not needed. Use the money for headers.

While it's definitely fun for impressing your friends and does help a bit with straight-line acceleration, it makes driving in the rain TREACHEROUS!! Even the slightest throttle input when turning corners makes me break traction. I live in Florida and it rains quite often, so I've got to be careful. Coming from my AWD Audi, I'm not used to being so cautious in the rain.
It's either that, or these Pirellis suck in the wet! LOL
It rains lots here in Singapore where i am located... The LSD from what i have read helps with traction....
I am not really into 1/4 mile runs nor race track track days type..... (i would not really consider the amg if i track a lot). Besides.... I have got my eye on the c63 wagon.
I test drove the tester (c63 sedan) the other day.... Gave the car some gas for a Highway on ramp mid corner, car's tail came out.... Scared the heavily pregnant sales lady. Would not have happened in my m3 imho.
Anyways, i am also researching on upgrading factory 19s with fatter tires.
The amg cars sold here come with performance pack... Red calipers, SLS engine internals.....But NOT the LSD....

I love australia and the nice sydney - melbourne drive....but i hate the 110km/h speed limits imposed on highways.... Enforced so religiously.
I have tried the bmw f10 m5 as well, love it.... But slight turbo lag.

Is an L.S.D. a must?....Absolutely not!
Did we spec an L.S.D. with our C63?.....Yes, we did.
Why? Well the C63 is obviously a "performance" car, we ordered P31, so we thought we'd spec the L.S.D., so that our car had "all" the "performance" options...a "hamburger with the lot" if you like.
If there had been any other "performance related" options, we'd probably have specced them too.
Cheers, Pickles.
It's kinds like driving around with all seasons when you coulda had a set of Pilot Sport Cups or RE11s
Those that don't have it, wouldn't complain if they did
I just can't imagine dropping $80k on a powerhouse and doing 1 wheel peels
Just sayin
Tell that to the 50 foot stretch I put down with both tires without an LSD.
On the 1/4 track there is no difference between the LSD and without. The only time you can run into a Jam is warming up the drags if both tires don't spin. With a little nudging you can get both of them to spin up just fine if you run into that issue.
is the factory LSD or a quaife better? I think the factory is 30% lock up while the quaife is 100%? does that mean the quaife is better?
btw, @GBlansten, @propain....
please share whats in your cup of coffee in the mornings.....
