Obsidian Black Vs. Black for C63 sedan

I wanted to ask this question again.
I have read through some of the older threads but I wanted to get some new feedback.

I have heard that the obsidian may hide swirl marks better.
But I have also heard that the obsidian may look dusty or not quite as black as plain black.

What are the pros and cons of obsidian and plain black?

Which would you choose if you were buying a black c63 sedan?

Did you choose obsidian and later have regrets for not going with plain black?
Or vice versa?

Thanks in advance for your insights.

I traded my CLK350 on the C63 and it was obsidian black. I thought it was terrific and did not really show up dirt or dust any worse than any other color. When clean it is fantastic, much better than the palladium silver I now have.

A plain black car will appear to show swirls and dirt more. The metallic flake in Obsidian hide these things a bit better. I am very happy with obsidian black.

040 black will look better when clean, but more difficult to keep looking good

obsidian black will not look quite as good, but will be easier to keep clean

Metallic seams to also be more forgiving with scratches and blemishes.

If you want the deepest black then get plain black. If you are worried about getting swirls or scratches then get Obsidian as its more resistant to scratches.

I'm very happy with my pure black. :-))

I got both colors. The C63 is plain black and the C300 is the metallic one. Side by side, you can see that the plain black shines more and has a deeper color than the metallic one. I prefer the plain black but it needs more TLC than the metallic one. I don't mind cause I always hand wash my car often.

I thought Obsidian is the plain black (at least my car is obsidian 040 black). just wanted to clear that up so OP doenst order the wrong color.

anyways yes x1000 on how everyone says black is a hard color to keep clean. this is my first black car and you really need to wash it at least every couple of days for it too look its best. every bit of dust, pollen and scratch shows.

it does look beautiful once clean though

Both colors look great but if I had to choose id go with plain black.
There is nothing like a freshly polished/waxed black car.

No, Obsidian Black is metallic, code 197. Gloss Black (non-metallic) is code 040.

The cars painted gloss black (code 040) have metallic black door handles; looks goofy.
