M156 head bolt problems
#801
Failure in the UK on a 2008 with only 20k miles: http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/amg-l...2-%40-msl.html
None were broken
They found 2 loose bolts
I wonder if they stretched?
Most failures have been snapping at the head/shank

OK, I changed my oil today and I now notice a ticking noise in the valve train. I'll give it a while to see if it goes away. I have a 2011 that does not have the bad head bolts. So my question is, when Mercedes went to the new head bolts, did they also go to the better SLS valve train parts (buckets)?
Thanks,
Glenn

Just chiming in here...
I have a 2007 CLK63, bought new -- it now has ~149K miles on it (yes, I drive it). @50K, I was one of the first in the country to experience the lifter failure as it took out three of my camshafts. MB was kind enough to pay for that.
@149K, now, I believe I've won the lottery, as all signs are pointing to head bolt failure on my vehicle. At this point I'm hoping the damage isn't too extensive, currently awaiting a tear down. If it's just the bolts, I'm replacing with studs.
Cheers,
Chris

If you catch it early and have a good shop that will switch from bolts to studs one at a time, price shouldn't be too much. They should be able to do the job in 8hours.
If a bolt broke or stretched and the gasket is compromised that could bes larger job. Heads need to come off.
