Thanks

Edit : Wouldn't it be better if I take the car to the dealership to have the bumper fixed ? Are they gonna report it as an accident to carfax ?

The dealership will send your car to a bodyshop anyway. So just go the bodyshop directly.

The dealer uses their own body shop.
It wont come up on car fax unless you go through your insurance.

I've used dealer-recommended body shops on two BMW's and one Mercedes. My recommendation is find your own (better) shop.

Yes, they're using their own body shop. It's going to show up on Carfax as collision... But I've got no choice...

Of course you have a choice. No insurer or dealer can dictate where to have your repairs done.

Am I missing something here ? Even if I take my car to another body shop that doesn't report to carfax, it will still show up on my carfax since it's the insurance company of the other guy who's paying for the repair. That's what I've been told this morning. If the only choice to avoid a carfax report is to pay from my pocket, that's not going to happen. I'd rather them pay for it and in two years I'll just trade in the car where I bought it from.

No what he is trying to say is you have the right to choose where your car will be repaired. The insurance company can't force you to use their body shop. And yes you are right on the carfax part. Whether you take it to the dealer or someplace in Hialeah it will be reported since the insurance company is paying for it.

That's why I'm taking it to the dealer in Coral Gables. I should take advantage of the fact that the insurance is paying for that.
