Why in the world are dealers ordering these cars without the HID lights?

Crazy, one has performance package, carbon fiber option, keyless go option, parktronic, lane changing option...but not lighting package? $79k+ sticker

My search continues.

rumor has it there was a shortage on the xenon parts supply.

but yeah, I totally agree any car with this price tag should not leave factory without HID headlights.

good luck with the search

Yes
There was a shortage. It affected a lot of late 2011 build cars. Same with rear view camera for early 2012 builds.

shortage or not, they should cut back supplying the other W204 cars then a C63 should have these as standard imo

Steel Grey Metallic C63!!
Shortages isn't the only reason. Every model year changes, the dealerships are allocated MBpre-spec'd cars that they only have a certain amount of time to make changes to. They have to make changes while they don't even have the full option lists yet. That's why there were a lot of 2011 cars without lighting packages. They were part of the P2 package in 2010, while it became the lighting package in 2011.

cant believe this car is not standard with lighting package...

i also had trouble locating one with the lighting package back in Jan. I thought they would have been over the parts shortage already.

hold out for one though, its worth it. Nearly settled for a non lighting package one but I'm glad I held out.

Have other manufacturers had this shortage? I just don't see Lexus or even Cadillac rolling out there cars without HID lights because its such a standard feature.

Same thing I went through while shopping mine. Deal breaker for me too! I even asked if I could buy the xenon light units and have them installed....seems that was not a possibility either....Good luck with your search!

I have to admit, I find it stupid that MB even offers cars with non-HID. Same goes for BMW, etc.

If anything it should be an opt-out option not an opt-in option (i.e., a negative cost option to downgrade to non-HID).

it's true, people I know who couldnt wait and went with a non HID car all regret it once it gets dark. The difference is huge

wait it out for sure, you'll get what you want + at a better price

Sorry man, you have no idea what you are saying here - completely incorrect.

As to the other posts, the reason those cars didn't get built with HID is because the dealer didn't choose to put the option on the car. There wasn't a shortage of any sort, other than the shortage of initiative to check the box and have the car built with HID.

I totally agree that any AMG product should come standard with HID's.

I'm definitely holding out. Is there a way to retrofit the lighting package? I wonder if the dealer could install it.

I think the dealers are just forgetting to order it. These are cars that just arrived at two different dealers. Like someone else said, I think the lighting package should be a special delete feature in the system. Same with the leather seats.

actually, my dealer confirmed there was a parts shortage for the lighting package back in Jan. I asked my dealer about it and they said that it would push my build back a couple months.

I dont think so. There was one car my dealer was trying to sell me that didnt have the lighting package. I asked them if it was possible and they said no. (i guess it is, but too expensive).

not worth it. just hold out for one i say....as hard as that is (i couldnt wait for one to get built either, so i just had the dealer find me one haha)

Unless you have some special connection with the dealer, or else no dealer will install anything other than cosmetic add-on's after the car is delivered. They would especially avoid installing electrical parts, OEM or not, to keep themselves from warranty troubles.
