how is the sound, it is the power delivery different form out motors, one of the things i love about our motor is the sound and the torque it seems like less value for the 5.5L e and sl 63s that increasing the boost for the AMG price difference seems less of change then the awesome 6.2L motor

I think the new motor sounds great! The TT motor has much more torque then our NA 6.2L motors.

I have driven the 5.5 at an AMG driving event.

It sounds 'good' but not as good as the NA 63. Down low you can't really tell it's a turbo charged motor. But the 5.5 is definitely less edgy at higher RPMs / downshifting.

There is certainly something to be said for hanging on to the NA '63 motor. With all marques going forced induction it's likely to be the last of its kind.

I heard one on YouTube with a down pipe no cats and an x pipe. It sounded real mean.

All turbo chargers have a smoothing muffling effect on the exhaust, however they do make a nice exhaust sound when they spool up. You can never get the same deep rumble that a non-turbo charged engine has.

The 6.2 is a 10 on the sound scale. The 5.5TT is an 8.5 and still best of the rest. Audi V8s sound sick too, my second favourite.

BTW-- anyone driven the new ML63? If you have you know what i'm talking about. Between shifts the sound is just nasty-- I tried to get it on video but it does it no justice.

In the past twelve months I have been to two AMG Driving Academy events and the new motor was available in a bunch of the cars, mainly, the S63, CLS63, E63 estate, E63. There were also a few of the bigger motored cars such as the C63 and the SLS. With the people I attended who are all motor heads such as I we all were blown away at how good the 5.5 turbo sounded, by far the best sounding force induction engine produced...not like the horrendous and hiddeous BMW V8 turbo, but as good as it sounded, when a C63 and a 2011 E63 (6.2) or the SLS of course left the pits everyone just nodded at each other as to say the normally aspirated 6.2 is the king of sound, period. So to answer your question about sound, this 5.5 turbo lacks the thrill factor of the 6.2, no matter how you dress it up.

vs.

The NA 6.2 is just insanely loud and mean. You can tell the biturbo is more subdued.

I'd second the point re: shifts in the new ML. Absolutely nasty. And I chopped the resonator off the CLS - plenty loud enough for me.

I have/had owned both... not just driven but owned thru many different scenarios including countless dig launches and rollers to 150 mph plus. Now keep in mind my 6.3 was a W212 but ...

Stock vs Stock:

The open bark on the 6.3 is stronger than the 5.5. The WOT was louder ever so slightly as well with the 6.3 but both to me were rather tame. I have a lot of modded cars and all of them have exhaust work done so stock is well... stock.

Modded:

I removed the post cats and the resonator on the 6.3 and the car became a beast no doubt but removing the resonator on the 5.5 made that car just as ferocious. The M157 engine in the TT coupled with a resonator removal is excellent. I almost like it better than I did my 6.3 modded. I may be biased owning 2 M157's currently but both have the resonators out and they roar and both have full cats still. Both my M157's and the 6.3 did not have any other engine or exhaust mods except OE Tunes.

Just my opinion as an owner of both engines. If any of you ever get the pleasure of owning an M157- do the resonator delete immediately.

The 63 is still a notch up above the 5.5TT. Stock, resonator delete and catless.
Mine is catless downpipes and a DD.
Not saying that the 5.5TT does not sound mean and would not satisfy me. What I heard above sounds phenomenal.
