CBDPH, if it can make you feel better, they won't give you a new key with the new style if you car has keyless. I ordered a new key for $300 and they gave me the old one. I was pissed....
I'm gonna see with my parts guy if I can order the new key without the keyless...

When I was getting my replacement key ~4/12 the parts dept was saying something about how there's a shortage of old style keys so he asked if I wanted a newer style one. I insisted on the older style and that's what I got. My car has Keyless and I wasn't explained anything of the sort... but parts depts have been known to give out inaccurate information in the past. So who really knows!

I'm at the dealer right now and there is NO WAY to get the new key for pre-2011 with keyless. I spent an hour at the dealer to get the final answer. My SA (who always takes care of me because I take care of him) made it clear after asking everyone that you can't get the new key. He said even if you order the new key without keyless, they will give you the old style (it has something to do with the module inside the key). Now he was kind enough to talk to his boss and have my key replaced under warranty even though it's working fine.

Okay while that may be the case with keyless go- many members on this board have updated their old style keys (no chrome- all black plastic) to the newer ones with chrome trim. It's certainly doable.

had to stop by the dealer and i asked about this part # when i was there. they said it was unorderable. there is a performance center a little further away so I went there. the parts guy there also said its unorderable but can check with his depot to see what the "real" status is. anyone had any luck getting it through the dealer?

Yes I was able to get the Key Fob Back from the dealership. When you go, firstly, tell them you have an AMG and that you want the AMG Key Casket. That's what it's called. Then, they will make you sign a bunch of stuff and show your car to them to prove you VIN and everything. After that, you should be ok. It's a ***** because they consider it a "safety" thing as part of their key inventory so you can't just buy one. It has to be attached to your VIN. If you have any problems contact me and I can help you get one through MB of Buckhead.

Thanks to Eric for getting me off my butt on this ... got my key casket from the dealer. Was super excited until Minh told me it doesn't fit the original key (I know this was discussed here, but for some reason I was thinking of the old, no chrome key). Anyway, my parts guy hooked up a spare key at cost, and I needed a spare anyway, so I'm all set. Such a small thing, but it feels so good. Lol.

Picked up mine today. Went down to Smythe in San Jose on Saturday, gave the guy the part number and $25. That's all it took. I was expecting it to take a week or more, so 2 days is fine by me.

went to fletcher jones and the parts guys sitting behind the desk said it was not an orderable part. asked a couple of times and got the same answer from 2 different guys. mind you this is where I bought the BS.
have a co-worker who's husband works at walters in riverside and they were able to place the order for me. haven't gotten it yet, so i'll keep you posted.
I'll believe it when I pick it up, because they also said they ordered a BS for me sent me paperwork which ended up being phantom paperwork...like a worksheet. ended up they didn't get any BS...
so... we'll see.

Yeah, I didn't realize that this was even an option. I replaced both keys under warranty and opted for the smoother, older style. Kind of regretting it now.
