Potential C63 owner

Hey everyone, just looked at a couple 2010 c63s yesterday and I'm pretty interested in the car. Going back to test drive one today. Still doing research on the different models as I'm new to mercedes. I have a few questions regarding the car...

I looked on wikipedia, but what are some year to year changes? It seems the same from 2008-2011 and then facelifted in 2012? I know with my current car (Audi) there were a number of year to year changes I wasn't aware of, that would have influenced my purchase choice if I had known.

Handling... I'm not going to get to push the car to it's limits with the sales person, so for daily use how is it? I can't get my audi to lose control if I try... I don't want a car that I have to worry about taking a corner in the rain or something.

Tuning. Who are the top dogs? I had heard of renntech and kleeman before, but after some digging it looks like eurocharged and oetuning are the guys to go with? I would only ever get a tune and maybe a pulley, nothing outside of that.

I think I've answered all my other questions myself... Thanks in advance!

Not sure if the C63 is the best choice then lol

You can't compare it to the Audi Quattro

Lol not expecting a RWD car to feel like quattro. I think I might just have to scare the salesman a bit to figure that part out :p

Hahah I took the salesman sideways on the off ramp to the highway on my testdrive! He was rattled to say the least! There were lots of changes from 11-12. Most noticibly is the interior upgrades and the MCT transmission. Both of these were the main reasons I waited 9months for a 2012 to come over. To me there is a noticble driving difference between model years and you will save 15-20% more fuel by going with a 2012...depending on how you drive. I daily drive my car all year round.. even in the snow here in Ontario. Its fine as long as you are responsible. If you slam it into a turn you will go sideways!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the big differences between the '09 and the '10 were the iPod MM interface and the P31 option.

LOL! Don't encourage me Vaclav. I'll take a look at the 2012 and 2010 to compare the interior. The gas mileage improvement is appealing.. but the price difference between a low mileage 2010 and a new 2012 is a good $20,000 or so. Which I'm sure isn't what I'll be spending on gas in the next 2-3 years. I hope.... Test drive is in an hour, I'll let you all know how it goes.

the 2010 also had new mirrors.

You'll be fine with a C63 as long as you are not actively trying to kill yourself. I have a good friend with a S4 and every time he drives it, he thinks of my C63.

I went from a B8 S4 to a 2010 C63 and now to a 2012 C63. The biggest issue for me was the transmission. Compared to Audi's DSG it was poo poo so I decided to upgrade to the 2012 with MCT and am much happier! I didn't mind the Interior of my 2010 but after being in the 2012 for 3 months its really much improved. What about leasing a 2012? I ended doing the 33 month lease special and the payment ended up being cheaper than the 2010 I bought used so it worked out well for me. Good luck! It's a beast of a car!

Went for a very long test drive. Loved it! This is a mercedes forum so I won't launch into a review lol. Very well put together car... I thought the transmission was fine, not that much worse than DSG. I can get very reasonable pricing on a 36 month lease, which is what I would probably do. Then step up to something with the 5.5L biturbo when my lease is up.

The 2012 is definitely nice, however I actually prefer the exterior of the 2010 over it, and the interior isn't nice enough to warrant the $23,000 difference for me.

Quite a step up in performance from the last car I test drove (335is) but I would definitely get a tune. My mind is pretty much made up, definitely going to be stepping up to a merc in the near future

You can't go wrong with any the C63. The M156 is the heart and soul of this W204, everything else is a bonus. With that being said, I went with a 2012, all those little improvements in the interior, exterior, and transimission did it for me. Good luck with your choice!

My thoughts exactly! And when your lease is up, then it's time to upgrade to the W205...

Regarding the whole corner in the rain thing... If you push a C63 hard in the drive, the back end will get loose. In the rain, if you do the same you'll just spin the car. Keep in mind the Audi has less power and is AWD. The C63 has more power is RWD and VERY tail happy. Even my C32 slides all over the place in the rain.

Cool beans. I got to push it aggressively enough in the test drive to know that I'm not concerned about sliding around being an issue. Going to hold out for a black one with low mileage and no perf package. In my mind something used with a perf package will have been pushed harder than one with just the premium package. I'd rather get an aftermarket tune anyways.

What's the average lease deals some of you been getting on either a leftover '11 or '12 with say 6K down? I don't drive much so 10 to 12K per year is ample and a 3-year commitment is fine.

I can't really comment because pricing in Canada sucks compared to the states. But pricing I got was 8k down and $800/mnth tax in for a 3 year lease. Didn't negotiate the price as I was just looking, not serious about buying right this moment, so I'm sure it could be less.

Oh and that was for a 2010... so I guess not very relevant to your question lol.

I'm assuming negotiating the price on a new '12 is difficult considering that there is so little stock here in the US, at least that's an assumption purely based on an autotrader.com search. I did find three new '11s in stock locally, but I don't think I could live with one long term considering the upgrades to the '12. I may just have to order one if I decide to pull the trigger. I'd love to get lunar blue, multimedia, pleather, and LSD only. The other options aren't needed IMO, like lane assist.

You gotta get Keyless-GO.

I'm on '09 .. and it wasn't even an option (I'm surprised I see so many 2010's without the add-on).
