Used C63 or New C350 CDI?
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have actually started another thread under the C Class section so I hope this is not considered as a duplicate thread, but I thought I may get other opinions by posting in here also
We are considering purchasing either a 2009 C63, or a new 2012 C350 CDI.
Our trouble is we don't know what way to jump. Details on the vehicles can be found in the other thread https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ml#post5297144

no comparison. This is an apple to oranges analysis If you just need something to go from point A to point B... go get a C250. else and you can afford and demand performance, styling, AMG.... get the C63

To me I was asking because over here in Aus. both cars we were looking at were similarly priced. I was having troubles with 2009 car vs 2012 brand new car at virtually the same price. I know they are totally different cars, however I guess what it boils to was if I should pay similar prices?? What would hold the value better when it comes time to trade in say 3 years time.

please go test drive the C63 then come back to this thread. I too in the beginning was deciding between a C350 and a C63. After one.. yes a single test drive with the C63, I knew it was the car for me. Stats and pics on the computer doesnt do much... experience the M156 engine for yourself

I’ve posted this in the W204 & C63 section.
If your purchase decision involves the depreciation values, check out ‘Carguides’ or a similar site and compare the second-hand prices of the same year models for AMG and MB against their new prices.
The first owner of the AMG took the big depreciation hit, so common sense says when its used price levels out it should retain better value than the stock MB.
Final choice will depends on what you look for in a car.
An enthusiast may prefer power and overall performance (especially if they have other cars in their garage), where an ‘A to B’er’ would most likely be interested in comfort, appointments and the fact it’s new with full warranty.
I have just bought a new 2012 C200 CDI for shopping duties and if you disregard performance, it has more to offer luxury wise than an out-dated 2009 C63. Even a 2010 is a big step up than the 2009.
Compare what you get (apart from the AMG gear) and you’ll see how antiquated a 2009 is.

I have a c220 cdi in addition to my c63 amg and its a completely different car. you have to decide which one is best for you. (i assume the 350 cdi will just be a more powerful version of my 220). Steering feel, seats, suspension, power delivery are all very different.
You will have enough fun in the cdi if you are just an average driver using to get from point a to b. it has enough low down torque so its great in the city and over taking situations, plus my 220 got my close to 35 mpg mostly city driving! diesels are really great on gas.
the c63 is a sports car though, it feels better to drive in every single aspect and much much faster obviously (although you have to rev higher than the diesels since its an N/A engine). its also not as comfortable (less room in the back, rougher suspension. my parents hate riding in my AMG as there is too little room for them and it rides rough)
you also have to see if you want a new car or risk buying a used car. some people have had issues with older c63 and it will cost more to maintain. take them for a test drive and see what you want. they are completely different cars.

I am in Australia and I own both, 2012 C63 Coupe and 2012 C350cdi. Both are great cars. If you want grunt, noise, exhileration, power and luxury go for the C63. The 350 CDI is almost all of the C63 except it feels a lot smoother, less grunt, less noise and less power but excellent fuel economy
The C63 has 600Nm of torque and the C350 cdi has 620Nm of torque, yes that is correct, the diesel has more torque. So the 350 CDI is a mean machine anyway. So don't discount the C350 cdi.
It also comes with newer technology. The new 350 cdi has the latest phone connection and all your contacts from your iphone will automaticlly download to your car via bluetooth whereas the 2009 model would not. You have to get your dealer to download you contacts via a sap module or manually add your contacts to the car system (this only applies to Australian model cars and I think it is different in other countries). That was one issue that was very important to me and that is why I traded my 2009 C class to the facelift model in 2012. So I did own a 2009 C 220 cdi class model as well but it does not have the luxury and power of the C350 cdi.

That is easy decision. I would save the C350 cdi because that belongs to my wife. Then I go straight to the insurance and claim a brand new C63.

I had a 2011 C350 4MATIC before and I decided to upgrade to C63C after the lease was up. I regretted that I didn't get the C63 in the first place. All I can say is upgrading to C63 was my best decision ever so far. Everything about this car just blows me away especially the cold start in the mornings

In my opinion, if the OP is looking for fuel economy over performance, then buy the CDI.. And vice versa.
As a daily driver, OP might hate the fact she sees her gas station attendant more often than her loving partner. Lol

Tough call really. In Australia your C63 will either be out or about to run out of Warranty. Are you buying the C63 via a MB dealer? If so your car may qualify for a 2 year warranty via them.
As far as driving them I can only say the C63 is a machine I love to drive. Non AMG benz's dont generate that kind of feel. If you enjoy driving then go for the C63.
I would imagine the used C63 will keep its value better than an new 350, the first owner will have taken about a 60K hit already and the depreciation curve is slowing. The 350 will be at the start of the curve where the price drops off quickly.

We went into the dealer and drove them both back to back. As much as I loved the thought of a new car, with the new fancy interior after driving both I could not get over how great the C63 was to drive. Nothing wrong with the C350 either, however the C63 put the biggest smile on my face
In the end I purchased the C63. Go in on Monday to pick it up. Can hardly wait! This is going to be the longest weekend ever lol.
We went into the dealer and drove them both back to back. As much as I loved the thought of a new car, with the new fancy interior after driving both I could not get over how great the C63 was to drive. Nothing wrong with the C350 either, however the C63 put the biggest smile on my face
In the end I purchased the C63. Go in on Monday to pick it up. Can hardly wait! This is going to be the longest weekend ever lol.

From experience, the smile gets larger and larger as the little needle on the speedometer goes from left to right.

Great choice. My wife often sees me smiling when I put on the power and listen to the expensive noise it makes and she knows what I am smiling about. In turn it also puts a smile on a face. It is kind of funny.
What I generally do is fill it often, when it is down to 3/4 full that way it doesn't cost much when you fill it. Doesn't makes sense but just a habit I have developed.
