Merc63, do you actually see lower running oil temps normal being approx 100-110C, what do you see during operation. These car would benefit from a prestart function whereas the engine is cranked but not fired, this would allow for a pre pressure of the oiling system and give the lifter a chance to pump up as well as give some lubricity of the cam, lifter interface as the oil gallery points at this area. I find personally that these engines fire up quickly and go to a pre determined 1200 RPM range then idle down 10-20 seconds later.

I am getting loud lifter chatter on HOT restarts. Lifters must be bleeding down over 30-45mins and when the car is re-started, after 2-4 seconds they pump up and the engine is silent.
Its only been doing this for the last while now, has anyone else noticed this at all???
Cars at the dealer, they are trying to say a few seconds of noise is normal lol.
Every vehicle I have ever had, has hydraulic lifters and they make zero noise at all.

Current oil in the engine is MB factory fill. 0009898301USB6 which is apparently 5w40. Oil level is full too. Maybe even a bit above the top red marker on the dipstick.
I'm considering changing to M1 FS 0w40 and giving it a try, and maybe treating it with Ceratec at the same time. Do you think this would help?
Is it a serious issue requiring me to replace anything? (lifters, tappets?) or do I just ignore it and live with it?

Bumping an old thread because this is what turned up in my search. The same exact thing happens to my engine. Strangely enough, I don't seem to have any issues with bleed down when starting the car cold after it has sat outside overnight. It's only on a hot restart after the engine oil has been fully warmed up from driving previously.

Both of you dum dums don’t even realize you’re talking about the most discussed topic on this entire forum. Seriously. Nobody wants to hear about your lifter tick experience. Please read the FAQ.

I use search heavily and I try not to post something new or ask unless it seems different from the rest. I found a thread that describes my exact experience so I posted in it to see if it was as common an occurrence as the other scenarios.
I don’t have extra loud lifter tick on cold start. I have it only on hot restarts. I just wanted to see if anyone had that same scenario and was able to resolve it. I went through the common troubleshooting. I’ll try some more.
Thanks for the data point.
