I've been buying aftermarket wheels over 25 years. Even the cheapest wheel does not need road force balancing unless it is out of round...or the tires are.
A high cost wheel like ADV1 SHOULD NOT NEED TO BE ROAD FORCE BALANCED. Period!
The Hunter balance machines are the most popular and accurate. But even an older machine with an experienced tech can balance correctly.
The modern Hunters are amazing in that they do all the work. As long as they are calibrated reguarly, they are 100% on point.
Something is wrong with those wheels. Bottom line.

well, looking on the other side they do have those machines for a reason, and I think being a 3 piece wheel might play a part? IDK. I'm not trying to defend my purchase or anything I want to give it one more try. Matt@ ADV1 has been nothing but extremely helpful and responsive to my situation. He contacted me right when I posted this thread.
He did confirm they passed their "qc", so I will just try and road force balance these. If it doesnt work out I will inform them and they can hopefully give me a refund or compensate some how.

This isn't our sale nor do we have anything to do with this deal, but when you post wrong info like this i have to say something. Complete false we sell the best wheels in the world from Volk, BBS, HRE ETC . The whole point of road forcing is to match the tire and wheel up perfectly. Every wheel and tire combo should be road forced, you do this to ensure perfection. Maybe the wheel isn't bad and most time it is the tires, especially cheaper low end tires. By saying a wheel doesn't have to be road forced makes no sense as a wheel by its self doesn't get road force the wheel and tire assembly does. So OP have you road forced your wheels? It's the easiest solution. If you were in my area i'd do it for free to help you out. Best of luck
If the wheel is right, no need for road force. Not with the modern balance machines especially.

Those are pretty gorgeous wheels man... pardon for not skimming through the entire thread but did you go for 18 or 19? I'm torn between the decision of keeping my OEM AMG multispokes and a set of 19" 8.5 / 10 HRE 590RS

I'm here to warn you guys, but OBVIOUSLY, you MB guys know much more about wheels that the many other boards who have had issues with them. Now that's borderline trolling.

You love the ADV, go right ahead and spend your thousands one them. No skin off my head, but you've been warned.

Ok guys, I have bad news ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Got my wheels road forced balanced at the dealer....still vibrates. Very very disapointed.
Hopefully ADV will correct this, matt has been great to work with and he has already refunded me for the leak repair.

The run out is screwed on them aka they are garbage. Get your money back and buy something else. Its not uncommon for these wheels to have this problem. Goodluck.

I'm starting to want to return them now

Although I like the size, I like the extra rim protection, ride comfort and handling benefits thicker tires give you.
Hope so! and I will do

I know i'm the "ADV.1 fanboy" and everything but my understanding is that "balanced" wheels should runout below .26 and all your values are under that? ie... the wheels are balanced?

thats what matt told me, he asked me to measure the center bore now, which I will do when I have time.
I did notice the one value is very close to the "limit" of .26 though, could that be the issue? its got a huge variation from the other wheels. I swear it is still vibrating, I even made sure to take it out again and it wasnt just in my head or something. I toasted my old tires so I couldnt put on my stock wheels and tried it to compare.

I wouldn't waste time trying to figure out why the wheels aren't balancing. That's not the customers job. The customer pays his money and should receive a working product. Period.
I knew road force balancing wouldn't change a thing. A bad wheel is a bad wheel.
Those don't look that good anyway. They are too darn small.

What about the other half of the equation - a tire being defective? No one is jumping on Pirelli's (or whatever tires you got) nuts or even allowing that to be a potential part of the issue.
I mean i'm all for the OP getting his **** sorted out but from what it looks like thus far the wheels are balanced and as such the wheels themselves aren't causing the vibration. I suppose it could still be a wheel problem with the centerbore as the OP was told to check.
Natman - Did the dealer you went to say anything to you? I'm assuming if they came back with issues and they wouldn't balance correctly the service manager would've alerted you? Normally dealers don't let their customers drive off the lot if their wheels are dangerous and won't balance without telling the customer about the issue.

A bad wheel is a bad wheel period? Even when he posts up runout tests that prove the wheels are balanced and not the issue? Really? Just proves how much biased haterade some people have against a company regardless of FACTS provided.

I'm still wondering if the vibration is coming because of the variation? for example the front ones are real close to each other and the back ones are not. I dont know much about balancing wheels so I'm just guessing.
anyways, I will measure the center bore when I have time and update.
If anyone has any other ideas as to why my steering wheel vibrates when I go past 80-90mph, please post here so I can narrow down the possibilities.
thank you all for your help and interest
