Serious problems with my C63. Help !
Ok so I have a 2009 C63 AMG with P30. The car has 33,000 kms.
I started getting 'check coolant' messages, so I brought the car to my dealership twice to have it refilled. Third time I got the message the dealer kept the car to check for leaks.
They found a clamp that the coolant was leaking out of and replaced that and a hose. No coolant message for a week. Then on friday, I am driving my car and I hear this clicking sound, which intensifies when the engine is revved. The sound lasted maybe 10 minutes and went away.
I brought the car in again and they couldn't find any cause of the noise and didn't know what it was, so I just took the car and went home.
Just when I got home "CHECK COOLANT LEVEL" pops up again.
Im going to bring it back tomorrow and just get a rental until this is resolved. Car is under warranty thankfully, until apr 2013.
Wtf is going on?any ideas?
edit: also no issues with car overheating, no white smoke, etc

Sounds like the infamous headbolt issue might be rearing it's ugly head...I'd check the head bolt sticky for more information on some other member's experiences.

While many of us on this forum are more technically astute than the average person and by now are aware of the head bolt issue, I cringe at the dealer practice of just replenishing coolant and sending the customer on their way until it ends up in a $35k repair job...particularly situations where off-warranty, a customer goes in to a dealer several times for coolant loss, is sent on their way after a top-up and eventually suffers catastrophic head bolt failure.

Yes under warranty thankfully. I'm not paying anything.
Canada. i live in montreal.
No mods. I have aftermarket wheels but no time to install them yet
I knew is was the head bolts before they did lol. They made me wait a week for the appointment even though I told them it was a big problem. the secretary is a dumb *****, told her about the issue and she then proceeds to ask me if i would like my wipers changed at the same time. when i mentioned the model of the car "c63" she asked "oh is that an AMG?"
Silverstar montreal. and I don't know. I told them about the potential issue but they brushed it off the last time I brought my car..

Just wondering, how common of a problem is this? Because my service rep told me it took them 2 days JUST to find out it was a head bolt.

I've been told that it happens more in the non-C AMG's than the C63's. Now that's from just one person who knows, but what he knows is just a tiny sliver of all the M156's out there. We don't hear about the higher end AMG models because most of those owners are not active on the forums. I still think it'll be a very small % worst case, but I'll bet as the miles pile on we'll see many more cases in the next few years.

Its funny because in the past maybe 4 months I have been active in this forum, being a new C63 owner I have heard of 5-6 Cases of head bolt failure.
As BHAMG said its only the entry level C63 we hear about as its the modder's car of choice and one who follows or participates in forums.
When I first heard about this head bolt issue was roughly about the same time I bought my car, I asked a few people at the dealerships who knew nothing of the problem.
Today however alot of the used MBENZ salesmen have heard of the problem as do the mechanics.
Who knows if its a isolated problem or a timed event for failure

RR Evoque Dynamic, Benz Valente (work hack)
I havent seen any early m156 failures (fingers crossed)
The motor was already 2 yrs old when the C63 came out in 2008. Seems the ones you hear fail are the +2009 cars with low klms.

Well, I have 72k miles on mine.. no coolant/head bolt issue, but I have had every other issue :P
Last month I had the fuel rail, fuel pumps and a few other items replaced, prior to that the intake gasket seal... I hope that is it.. warranty is up in 30k or so (or 2014 whichever comes first.. but I suspect 6 months or so since I do about 100 miles a day). I am dreading keeping the car beyond the warranty period..

Good you sorted this out. My car went in today and it is getting the new head bolts design. The technician there told me, he just changed the head bolts on a ML 63.
