Looking ahead to winter: Blizzak LM-60 vs. Michelin Alpin PA3

Which tire is better on the c63 for a winter in Chicago?

Or should I put the Alpin PA3 on the c63 and the blizzaks on my jetta and drive my jetta when it snows but otherwise drive the c63 with the Alpins???

Opinions?

Gthal?

This. PA3 sucks in bad snow but are amazing on cold, dry roads.

If it is wet snow... horrible. If dry, powder... just bad.

I used Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's last winter here in Wisconsin with no problems.

The blizzaks worked well on my M5, probably would get them again for the C63!

WS 60 is the best. I tried everything. PA3 suck in slush. This winter I am driving my Cayenne

Perfect timing on this thread, just picked up a new CLS550 4matic for winter, and have to choose between these 2 tires. Couldn't get Hankooks in the right size. Looks like Michelins for me!

I had a CLS550 4matic as a loaner a couple of months ago. The grip is awesome as it pulls like a freight train....Might even stretch a C63 out of the hole

All it needs is the Renntech Tune, the lowering module and some Vossens

It was your thread that made me test drive the CLS 550 4matic in the first place.

At my elevation, my BS only puts out 420hp. Chipped, it's going to be faster than the BS. Not the first time my winter car is faster than my summer car in a straight line haha.

PA3 should not have the snowflake on them. Worthless in more than 2-3 " dry snow. No better than M&S. I'm going back to Blizzaks asap.

I have the Nokian WRG2 on my X3. They performed at least as well as the PA3 in the Winter conditions. Being all season tires, the WRG2 didn't wear heavily when driven in higher temps on dry roads. This was important when I was living in Colorado, as any given week in the Winter could see a few days of heavy snow and then warm, sunny conditions.

I've had the LM60s on another car and they were great for the 1st year (15000 kms). After a year the top ayer of tread had worn off and they started to suck big time.

I put Hancook W310's on my C63 last year and they were quite good in Ottawa / Montreal winter. Will be using them again this year and plan on putting a set on my C320 Coupe as well (I ran the C63 all last winter as the C320 was waiting for new brakes).

Thanks for the confirmation these can stand up to Eastern Ontario winters. This is my first Benz (09 CLS550) and was not looking forward to going back to RWD w/o great snow tires. I couldn't justify the higher cost of the Blizzaks. I'm north of Toronto but plan to drive to Ottawa once or twice throughout the winters with two kids in the back -

Hey Moof,

Did you pick up the tires? I am looking to get a set right now, and stuck between the Hankook W310, Dunlop WS 3D & the Blizzaks LM 60 - I also live in Aurora, so looking for the right balance for the RWD!

You guys ever thought of Nokian? Also, continental produces great, truly great, winter tires. Michelin on the other hand not so much, all honor to PSS but that's a different story.

I have, there are not many places in Toronto that sells it (Kal Tire is one), but I normally go to SimplyTire and Allen does not have it as an option. I am also weighing the drive on dry/wet and the snow/ice performance.

Many ppl indicate that the pure snow/ice tires (Nokian, WS70's) can feel very "loose" on those dry days (or non-snow days), so I am trying to have that good snow/ice tire, but will also be comfortable to drive for those other days.

I'm trying Pirellis this winter. Always used Nokian Hakkellita R's on my old Audi... Stickiest in all winter, but wear quickly (already a concern for our 63's).

You can get them from NTC Tire in Oakville.
