My ****ed Up Day!
either way, although it sucks, and the 500 is money gone, i think you did the right thing and hopefully that is the end of it. had the guy really called, that is an automatic careless driving charge on your record and the guy will most probably go thru insurance. you'll end up paying more than 500 later thru premium increases due to age.
to be fair to op, those guys probably do this scam multiple times a day and 7 days a week.... just by comparing experience, OP had no chance... accidents are when all parties didnt plan it, this doesnt seem like an 'accident'
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
1. Call the cops. File an official report documenting the speed, circumstances, and damage. You have nothing to hide and there was no damage. Don't panic.
2. Take pictures. If there's a police report for the insurance to reference and zero damage, then your insurance company can call his on bull***t. Then he'll be in a world of trouble. Chances are some people have fallen for his scam, but there may be a few who haven't. If he has enough accusations on his record, that's his BIG problem.
3. Don't pay out. As folks have mentioned, he can easily try to screw you anyway.
Hopefully he will not go back on his word after taking your money. But I'm pretty sure he would have chickened out if you decided to call the cops. Smells like a scam to me. But what matters is that you are alright.
Next time, like what Tim said, we'll all roll out and AMG the hell out of that piece of crap. Oh did you check your bumper for any deformation/ if the sides near the fenders are in place? I was rear ended once and although the contacted area looked fine, my body shop told me that the bumper was slightly deformed due to the impact.
Search "dash cam" on this site and you will get quite a few forums on dash cam recommendations. That's how I decided on which camera to get.

Call the guy up and tell him your going to report him unless e gives you your $500 back..Not even kidding..They played you bad.
I ended up with this one:

I know that FineVue is definitely a better camera. But heck, for 50 USD, I wouldn't have to worry about warranty and the camera breaking down. I'll just buy another one. Of course, the resolution is not that of a GoPro, but for its purpose, it's adequate.
