my wife bananas! :D
damn sajun,.... that really sucks and yea next time give us a call. we'll have our meet right on that spot. would be a sight to see all the c63s rolling in and asking the guy wtf is up.
either way, although it sucks, and the 500 is money gone, i think you did the right thing and hopefully that is the end of it. had the guy really called, that is an automatic careless driving charge on your record and the guy will most probably go thru insurance. you'll end up paying more than 500 later thru premium increases due to age.

to be fair to op, those guys probably do this scam multiple times a day and 7 days a week.... just by comparing experience, OP had no chance... accidents are when all parties didnt plan it, this doesnt seem like an 'accident'

I totally agreed with solekeeper. The same situation that happened to friend of mine 10 years ago that he had settle with cash and then two days later his insurance called and told him that someone had claimed that he hit and run. I would not settle something like this regardless. If I were you, the first thing I had to do was exchange ins info and called the police and let ins dealt with it. That's why we have an insurance for. My guess was there was no damage then nothing to worry about it.

In the event that you don't have a dash cam, here's what you do next time (if there is one):
1. Call the cops. File an official report documenting the speed, circumstances, and damage. You have nothing to hide and there was no damage. Don't panic.
2. Take pictures. If there's a police report for the insurance to reference and zero damage, then your insurance company can call his on bull***t. Then he'll be in a world of trouble. Chances are some people have fallen for his scam, but there may be a few who haven't. If he has enough accusations on his record, that's his BIG problem.
3. Don't pay out. As folks have mentioned, he can easily try to screw you anyway.

Hey sorry to hear about this! I couldn't make it to the meet but I will do that the next time.
Hopefully he will not go back on his word after taking your money. But I'm pretty sure he would have chickened out if you decided to call the cops. Smells like a scam to me. But what matters is that you are alright.
Next time, like what Tim said, we'll all roll out and AMG the hell out of that piece of crap. Oh did you check your bumper for any deformation/ if the sides near the fenders are in place? I was rear ended once and although the contacted area looked fine, my body shop told me that the bumper was slightly deformed due to the impact.

Sorry to hear about what happened. Everyone definitely needs a looping dash cam. The # of those insurance scam video put up by people with dash cam is just alarming. I just had one set up in my car two weeks ago. With the current economy keeps on sliding downward, things like this will become more and more frequent.
Search "dash cam" on this site and you will get quite a few forums on dash cam recommendations. That's how I decided on which camera to get.

Sorry you got scammed (or likely got scammed)... it sucks that people do this stuff and others need to resort to dash cams. There was a video I saw recently where some guy was driving along and a kid runs out from the sidewalk and jumps on his hood and pretends to be hurt. If he didn't have a dash cam, it would have been hard to prove that he didn't hit the kid.
hahahahahahhahaha

That's bs and gets me so mad.
You got scammed, that no more than a $20 payoff..
$500...they targeted you...how did you give away money so easily.
Call the guy up and tell him your going to report him unless e gives you your $500 back..Not even kidding..They played you bad.

LOL That video on Jeffield's reply. I remember that video from a month or two ago. Just remember that without the dashcam, it might become difficult to prove you didn't hit the person
I ended up with this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/160713174147...84.m1423.l2649
I know that FineVue is definitely a better camera. But heck, for 50 USD, I wouldn't have to worry about warranty and the camera breaking down. I'll just buy another one. Of course, the resolution is not that of a GoPro, but for its purpose, it's adequate.

We should do a group buy for www.blackboxmycar.com. I saw a couple of reviews done by board members here, and it seems like it's the best choice! The price is on the steep end, but if it works perfectly, I wouldn't mind spending a bit more. I see them selling it for $330 for CR300HD-16GB and CR300HD + Power Kit for $380 on their website.
