2013 C63 Black Series
Picked Up My C63 BS Today - Impressions - EPIC (NOW WITH PICS)

I know this is useless without pictures, I am working on converting and will upload. I picked up my 2013 C63 Black Series today at the dealer. Car arrived in covered carrier (Reliable). I had instructed the dealer that I wanted to be the one to peel off all the packaging, tape, etc. and that I wanted to be present for PDI/inspection, etc. So I was with the car from the moment it backed off the carrier until I drove it away from dealer. Maybe a little an*l of me, but that's the way I am about my cars.

Obviously I am in break-in, which I am adhering to religiously, although very difficult. But here are early impressions:

1. People have "under" described the exhaust note. Never thought I would say that, because every article and post I read mention it. But I would use more adjectives. I feel that under load the exhaust sounds a lot like a Maserati V8. It is crazy addictive, just right. Much more refined/exotic sounding than I expected. I expected muscle car burble. That does not do it justice. Far more exotic than I expected.

2. Pictures dont do justice to the bodywork adjustments. The car sits squat, fat, lots of presence, the wheel arch flares are bigger than I expected.

3. I find "C" mode very sluggish/sloppy. Not a fan of it. I guess if you were on the highway cruising or something. But since I am in break-in, I have kept it in "C" primarily. I spent a little time in "S", still following break-in rules, but felt much better in that setting. I am sure "S+" is even better/perfect.

4. Rides rougher than I expected. Eary on I thought about daily driving this car. Decided against that and kept my SUV. Sort of glad I did. Perhaps I could adjust the coilovers (I know I can) to be softer, but I think that would create too much handling compromise. Which brings me to my next point.

5. Biggest surprise for me was the handling. This car is WAY more tossable than I expected. For 4k lbs, I was prepared for a very heavy feel. No way. Feels so light footed. This part blew my mind, maybe because I wasnt expecting it. I feel the car handles almost as good as my 993 Porsche did, I mean the turn in is fantastic, the car stays so flat through curves. Telepathic. Wonderful.

6. No surprise, but even keeping under 4500 with no "kick downs", you get a sense of the instant torque and throttle response. So awesome. So natural feeling. I will say that they should have made the tires wider in the rear. They break free with even a simple squirt of the accelerator. I can see that is going to be something that requires constant care or will just be sliding everywhere. Wish they would have given it a bit more grip. I mean I was barely pushing the throttle and it started spinning.

Overall, the most exciting and satisfying car I have ever driven. The lineup includes: RS6, RS4, M3, 993, 993 turbo, 996, 996 turbo, 997 S, 997 turbo, various newer corvettes, mustangs, old muscle cars 1966-70 912s, 911s, etc.

Best driving experience ever. Thanks so much for the advice here.

Last time I checked you were the one that worked for your money and it's your money that is paying for the car. I don't see any reason why you don't have a right to be how ever you want when you pick it up.

Agree 100%

Agree 100%, even others at the detailer just couldn't stop staring..

C is sluggish, that's why I've been in S+ since mile 35, 300 miles on the car now. Much more responsive.

4. Rides rougher than I expected. Eary on I thought about daily driving this car. Decided against that and kept my SUV. Sort of glad I did. Perhaps I could adjust the coilovers (I know I can) to be softer, but I think that would create too much handling compromise. Which brings me to my next point.

I would say more firm than rough. More like the '06 STi I had.

Telepathic. Wonderful.

The handling abilities of this car cannot be overstated. Unreal. No comparison to a C63. Coilovers are phenomenal.

Do you not have the track package? I do, and the dunlops are awesome. No grip issues, although I haven't tried the race start yet.

Absolutely no regrets here, even considering the price. The driving experience is spot on. The shifts at redline in S+ are ridiculous...so much quicker with the MCT than my '09 it shocked me the first time it happened. Throttle response is fantastic.

Best driving experience ever. Thanks so much for the advice here.
You have to watch the 5th gear comparison video to get a feel for the abilities of the car. Well worth the time.

Haha... That's going to be a little hard from Austin, TX! I was on a business trip in a rental car when I was in OC. I wish I lived there!

Welcome to the club, Boss!

I drive in C most of the time, I don't find it sluggish, but you will find all the sweet spots after driving it.
My car, well she's in a bubble stored away for the winter.

S+ and sport traction, is my fav setting.

Congrats again!!!

Why bother driving round in C mode??
You are not using so much ofthe car's potential, I don't get it. sport+ or manual mode for me and traction jn sport mode only!!

Oh, my take on the C mode - you are exactly right. Its sluggish, jerky, and shift points are awful. Basically not usable IMO honestly - stick to S/S+, dont sweat it.

Only for break in. It says "no kickdown"... Which seems like it would be hard in the sport modes, no?

Maybe this begs the question... What did others do on break in. So far I am following it religiously....which means C mode only, no manual shifting, etc... Nothing over 4500, 85 mph, etc. Car has about 50 miles on it now...
