Extended Factory Warranty Denial

Yes, and also the finance manager at Georgetown MB in Texas also gave me the exact same price around last December when I bought my factory ELW. It was slightly cheaper but that's nearly a year ago. I got the info on both Santa Rosa MB and Georgetown MB from forums here.

2009 C63
I work at a Mercedes dealership and I spoke with my finance manager about this matter as I am going to purchase an extended warranty for my 2009 C63. If you are the second owner and bought from private party, you can purchase the ELW, if you bought from a Mercedes dealership and non-cpo, you cannot buy the ELW, only 3rd party warranty.

This is also what I was told by my dealer in NorCal, and I bought the ELW. Can't imagine but maybe this is a CA thing only as there are so many different opinions........

Here is the deal:
If you want the MB extended warranty, the only time it is offered is at the time of sale. Doesn't matter if you are 3rd or 5th owner. If it is declined at the time of sale at the "stealership", you will not be able to walk back in and purchase. It is one of the ways MB and CPO cars try to remain in-house and taken care of. Once it has been out of their hands, you will not be able to "join the club".
You will have to seek out a third party warranty. There is no option for you to pick-up the factory warranty. Other than the original term left/granted to you upon purchase of your CPO. You can still cover your car, maybe just not in the manner that you prefer.

Please go to this link:
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servic...parts/warranty
And click on the ELW drop down.
Other than the original warranty still being in force, there is no language related to who one buys a car from or whether or not it's CPO. My local Tucson dealer will sell me ELW for my C or ML anytime I like.
I cannot imagine why there are so many versions in the wild about what a dealer will or won't do. Seems to me they would love to sell them every chance they get.
Regards,
Joe

this is not true. you just have to pay a surcharge if you're not buying it at purchase.

Reading through this, her are my observations:
-If you are the original owner, no problem so long as it's before the 4 years or 50k Miles.
-If you buy private party (2nd owner) then it's OK (same as above)
-If you buy as CPO, you can buy at point of sale - then no problem
-If you buy at a dealer (non MB dealer / or at MB dealer but non CPO) as a 2nd owner, you are S-O-L.
This last point doesn't make any sense to me. I think I will take it up with MBUSA.
One final point, some forum members may be under the impression that their dealership is offering them the MB ELW but it's really a 3rd part after-market warranty. Just food for thought.
I have been pretty busy with work lately but when I have time I will look into this further with MBUSA. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I just wanted to update this thread so someone might benefit. I purchased a used 2010 C63 from a non-MB dealer last August with the original warranty expiring July 2014. I just purchased a genuine MB Extended Limited Warranty for 75,000 miles or 3 additional years expiring July 2017. It was approved and confirmed. Purchased from Teastman@mbofelmbrook.com, who was very responsive and easy to deal with. I still don't understand why some have been denied, but I wasn't.

I don't think it's a matter of what dealership you purchase from. Travis told me that he has had instances where the VIN wouldn't get through the purchase process on their computers. And also instances where the purchase goes through but later gets denied in the confirmation stage by MBUSA. Mine went through. He doesn't have a rule of thumb MBUSA goes by. Only way to know is to go through the purchase process in its entirety and hope for the best. His prices are definitely among the most competitive though for sure.

Emailed and called two different dealership that was recommended by this forum and both didn't respond back. I emailed Travis and got a response within 15 minutes. Bought my warranty with no hassle, my factory warranty was about to end in 3 days too. Don't bother with anyone else, just email Travis.

I am the second owner of my 2009 C63 that I purchased from a private party and Mercedes of Santa Barbara offered me the factory extended warranty while my car was still under original warranty. I didn't buy it since it was like $750 more than aftermarket for the same thing.

Got quote from Ca dealer for $3499+15% handling charge.
Since i have been good customer they will give me 10% off on the base price.
Is for 3/75000, is it a good deal?
