Extended Factory Warranty Denial
I have a 2009 C63AMG. I am the second owner of the car. I have almost 1 year left of factory warranty. 19,000 miles. I have been looking into an extended warranty. I am being told by more than one Benz dealer that I am not eligible for the factory extended warranty (7/75k) - so an extra 3 years or 75k. Does this sound correct? Any body else have success in getting the factory warranty extended (as a 2nd owner of the car)?
Thanks in advance !

Did you buy it from a dealer? If you bought it from a private party you should be able to get an extended warranty. I bought my '09 used in '10. I am the second owner. Dealer sold me a Mercedes extended warranty (3/75). I was told they would not sell me an extended warranty if I bought the car from a dealer. Of course this was 2 years ago.

There are plenty of companies that will offer an extended warranty. Mine cost 3200 for 3 years36k miles 0 deductible and you choose the where the works done. So you can go to dealership of custom shop if you want

If you want the MB extended warranty, the only time it is offered is at the time of sale. Doesn't matter if you are 3rd or 5th owner. If it is declined at the time of sale at the "stealership", you will not be able to walk back in and purchase. It is one of the ways MB and CPO cars try to remain in-house and taken care of. Once it has been out of their hands, you will not be able to "join the club".
You will have to seek out a third party warranty. There is no option for you to pick-up the factory warranty. Other than the original term left/granted to you upon purchase of your CPO. You can still cover your car, maybe just not in the manner that you prefer.

Anyway, point being, it was made very clear to me that the extended factory warranty was a choice that had to be made when signing sale papers, or it was off the table. Much like the key replacement, tire warranty, and up-front paid service plan.

I guess I was an exception. On my CLS, I was the second owner and when I reached 49K miles, I got a MB Extended warranty for 7/100K miles without a problem. RBM Atlanta got me setup, and when I got to 97K miles I started to regret getting it..but around 98K, my left HID went out, and when I went in to RBM about 4-5K worth of work was put into my car in transmission mounts, HID, seals, hoses, mid belly pan, and a lot more was covered.
Warranty paid for itself on 1 visit. Perhaps warranty qualification terms have changed?

Wonder if it is the head bolt issue starting to impact on warranties. That is, if a given car is "in range" for the affected head bolts then it makes sense that insurers don't want to extend warranty?

Very odd. I got my extended warranty 200 miles before my original one was up. I believe if the original is already done they dont let you extend it.

The dealer here in Austin only offered extension at the table. It was take it or leave it @ the time of purchase. Whether that was correct or "shady", that was all that was offered to me. It was the same offer with my C300's, as well as my C63. All-in-all, i was told the same thing on 4 different CPO purchases. Now, or never.
They are not my dealer anymore. Not just for this, but for for several other reason's as well. Can you say AMG incompetent? They can. I had such a hard time with them and my '08 C63, that I bought and now drive over an hour away to another city for my '10 C63.

Agreed. When I, as the second owner and purchased from a non MB dealer, had my 2010 ML63 in for a small warranty issue I was offered an extended warranty and was told I could buy anytime up until orignal warranty expired.

Lots of confusion in here. I have bought 3 CPO MBs and 1 brand new.
Logic behind MB factory warranty:
You can extend your factory warranty as long as you fulfill one of the following:
You have to be an original owner
You have bought a CPO from an MB dealer.
You can buy it anytime before your factory warranty expires. (miles/ yrs)
I extended my CPO on the E class at the end of the factory warranty.
I bought extended CPO warranty for the C63 till 2017 when I bought it.
I am yet to buy extended warranty in my CPO GL 450 in next few months..
I bought extended warranty on the CLK near the end if it's original factory warranty.

1. The vehicle must be inspected, equivalent to a service B.
2. The vehicle cannot be grey market.
3. The original 4YR/50K warranty must be in effect.
RBM called MBUSA to verify these terms which were listed in the booklet for the MB Extended Warranty. I did not buy a CPO car, I was the second owner of the car, and I did not buy my car from a MB dealer. I purchased the MB Extended warranty for 7YR/100K miles without issue near the end of 2009. No confusion here, what I would advise anyone to do is check what are the current stipulations that apply to getting an MB Extended warranty and get the dealer to check with MBUSA like I did.

Guys, thanks for the thorough feedback. I did buy the car from a local luxury car dealer (not a private sale) - maybe that is why.
Some more background: I contacted two out of state dealers first to get a sense of where the pricing would be at. They initially said yes, no problem but later called back and said my car was not eligible - per MBUSA. I asked why and never got a clear answer.
I will probably just get a 3rd party after-market warranty. My local dealer is selling National (National Warranty Corporation). Any opinions or experiences with National, please share.

I went it to extend my CPO and was told that the ELW was not available. MB has other warranties that they sell but the ELW was not available.
I ended up selling my car and buying a new one and I was advised that the ELW can be purchased before the regular warranty expires but the pricing offered at point of sale is cheaper.
Just my 2 cents.

Prestige in NJ told me I can buy the extended warranty anytime I want before the factory warranty runs out. I did purchase the vehicle new from them so not sure if that makes a difference.

I believe the Austin "stealership" is incorrect and has screwed me on several cars. Glad I switched dealers, even though I now drive over an hour to the one I am currently "using". I can't believe that they were basically trying to get me to pony-up right then and there. i wonder what their theory/thinking is?

I was unable to buy an extended warranty from MBUSA. Called several dealers. You get all the way to the purchase screen, and it will not let you.
The reason mine said no because I purchased the car from a Mercedes dealer without CPO. It was under warranty at the time with just 16k miles. If you buy from Mercedes dealer a used Mercedes car, and the dealer does not CPO the car at that time, you are not eligible to purchase extended warranty.
I think its because they want the dealers to push the CPO cars with the big markup.

My understanding is that as long as the car is still under original warranty, the original owner can purchase the ELW, which is how I got mine. This is not to say that a dealership can't probably fudge things to do whatever they want.
