Would you trade your C63 for a CLK63 BS?

Hi all,

I'm considering making a change and looking at either a 2010 e63 or there is a dealer nearby with an '08 CLK63 Black Series. They are in the same price range and I realize they are entirely different cars, but both really cool and unique in their own ways.

The CLK63 Black still looks fantastic and still current to me on the exterior for a 5 year old car. The interior looks extremely dated though, even compared to my '09 C63. Anyone here DD one? Is the ride OK for a DD car? My C63 has P30, so I am used to a slightly firmer ride.

E63 is bigger but I could get the refreshed body and still keep the same great 6.3 motor. I love the lines of the car, especially with the OEM 19's. I would only buy the car if I could get one with the 19's. However, they are SUPER hard to find. The 18's are flat disgusting and ruin the car for me. I could pursue aftermarket wheels, but just love the lines of the OEM forged double spokes. I know I don't necessarily need more space to necessitate the E, but wouldn't mind it either.

I realize this is a bit of me rambling, but would greatly appreciate the thoughts of my fellow C63 brothers.

Go with the E63. You will be disappointed with the CLK63 interior and performance compared to your C63. You will lose performance with the E63 if you stay untuned but you gain much more luxury over the C63.

Plus you can guarantee the CLK63 has been beaten on quite a bit. More info would be needed though. How many miles on the CLK63. How many owners.

Even if it was clean I would still go with the E63 because you are at least getting an upgrade in luxury and more room on the interior.

Thanks for the input. The CLK Black has 27k miles on it.

I would tune the E63. I have the Eurocharged tune on my C63 now and love it.

A tuned E63 will pretty much stay next to a tuned C63. Maybe the C63 has a SLIGHT edge.

27K... not bad at all and its a hot looking car. The crap interior will make you regret it in my opinion. Plus you will still have warranty on the E63.

An E63 is a better overall car for 99% of driving. More so when compared to a CLK63AMG.

Now, if you intend to track the car, the Black Series will have an edge and a distinctive one. I'd go for the 2010 E63 withe teh 6.2 Motor and a much much higher level of luxury.

my wife bananas! :D
ironic i will be saying this but the e63 would be the more practical choice of the two lol. but if you want to have a unique vehicle than the clk black would be it. really depends on you i guess.

e63 is better for the daily driving, performance, warranty, interior, comfort etc etc

clk bs is better if you like to roll into a meet and you are the only clk black and have ppl spend time checking out your car vs being one of many at a meet

If its your only car to DD, E63. If you have another DD, I'll take the CLK Black. The car will be cool for many years to come.

^ ditto.

If you need the practicality, E63. Any other reason, CLK BS. As I've told many people before, go test drive a CLK BS around the block or 2. That's all you need to understand the car. That might be a big enough factor for you to not give a crap about practicality lol.

I would also suggest that if future resale value is of any concern, then the CLK63 Black is likely the best choice.

As a 2008, the initial depreciation is largely factored in, and given it's rarity, it will hold it's overall value much longer than the E63 or your current C63.

I think the interior of the CLK is decent, especially when it's compared to an '09 C63 (if it were a '12 C63 or newer....I might think otherwise).

Personally, I prefer a car that is unique (they never sold the CLK63 Black here in Canada, as far as I can tell....I've been searching for one). An E63 looks an awful lot like most E-class sedans on the market, where there is almost zero mistaking of a CLK63 Black for anything else.

Unless you need 4 doors and 4 seats...go with the CLK63 Black.

Thanks for all the input guys. Hoping to drive both cars within the next week or so to get a better feel for them. I will definitely post my impressions when I do.

C63 is a nice car and so is an e63

....but they are not the same type of car as the BS. The BS is just a different animial all together (if you have not driven all three and back to back perhaps this does not make sense). Love the e63...but just dont understand it...i am 6'1 and no one can sit behind me. So why not get the s or a c? Love the c...its quick, but light....it feels, well not like the BS at all. In any event, they are all amazing cars, but for totally differnt purposes. Drive them all and then pick.

Dont rely on us.....

Definately post driving impressions of the CLK BS. I enjoy reading about people driving the BS for the first time.

All day long, any day of the week.

The CLK 63 BS is a limited edition car that carries with it the appeal of a true exotic car. It is something special.

Our C63's are fine cars in their own right, but not in the same league. The better question would be, "would you trade your C63 BS for a CLK BS with money?" Similar to, " would you trade a Scuderia for an older Challenge Stradale with money"?

I have never driven a BS of either generation, but at least the CLK BS has the same seats that I love in the first generation C63's!

If it's your only car and you either drive 30+ minutes to work or have to pick up your parents at the airport from time to time, then go E63. If it's your second car or the other two types of factors don't affect you, then go CLKBS.

Great question and thanks for starting this discussion! Will be following and hope you get to test drive and report back your opinions.

I have both..
To me the CLK63 BS feels a little quicker and the throttle response is quite a bit more sensitive. Get the CLK63 BS, you won't regret it

I literally cannot pathom that. Every single person who gets in my car for the first time cannot believe the side bolsters. Any one who's on the larger side can't even really sit comfortably. I love them, but definitely crazy to think they are even more hardcore in the BS.

I had both the pre-facelift C63 as well as the CLK BS. I'm pretty sure the seats are identical, with the exception of the CLK BS having manual front/rear sliders, while the C63 was powered.

They look identical to me as well.

I changed my mind BTW and told him to go with the BS due to further chats in PM.

the side bolsters are different and way bigger. I too thought the same thing until spending time with a clk black. I didn't think they could be any bigger but they sure are.
