Future C63 Owner - Questions / Concerns

Hey all,

I've been browsing the board for a while, and I've found a C63 in which I can afford.

Its a 2009 with 57,000 on the clock, what should I expect to pay for that? and my concerns are as follows:

The car is coming from a MB dealer but has no warranty on it. I inquired with my sales person and he told me it'd cost $5000 to certify. Where as this isn't incredibly expensive, is there another form of extended warranty or warranty available through the deal that is less? or do I have any other options? What would you recommend if I'm trying to save money?

I'm very nervous about the head bolt issues. I was overwhelmed with happiness thinking about getting this car today, until I read all the dreaded info on these faulty bolts. Rather discouraging. How many issues over 50k are having issues?

ALSO - just to clarify, people who have warranty are basically fine, but people who aren't are not getting anything more than a discount? correct?

Will MB have records for this car based on the vin to tell if these bolts have been replace yet? Am I able to call any dealer and check the history on the car?

Thanks

my wife bananas! :D
totally understand your fear on the headbolt issue. however, it isnt as prevalent as you think.

the $5k price to certify.. does that include the extend limited warranty? if not, that is crazy. there are 3rd party warranties you can buy, do a search on the forum. recently one of those companies actually posted here.

and i'm going to guess you mean 57k miles (hehe i'm used to kms up here in Canada). .. does it have the p30? and what other options?

I'm paying 36,500, which I think is a pretty good price

I'm not terribly worried about it not being a CPO, as several members on this forum seem to have cars with 70k miles + on their cars with 0 issues, I think I'll consult an outside warranty source.

Questions - do dealers sell 3rd party warranties? and how many of you have providers like fidelity? etc..? what can I expect to pay for a 1-2 year warranty?

EDIT - On the dealer site that I am buying this from they have this written in the description -

**SAID DEALERSHIP** (I replaced the name) CONFIDENCE PLAN CERTIFIED GUARANTEE includes our exclusive 101 point safety inspection, Carfax vehicle history report, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty for as long as you own your car, and our exclusive peace of mind 7 day or 500 mile exchange policy.

So does that mean they would cover those head bolts if anything ever happened with them?

Thanks!

You should ask them what they mean exactly by powertrain, ie, does it cover just internals, or does it include things like gaskets and head bolts.

Also, if you email mbusa with the vin, they can usually tell you if the work was done (if it was done at a mb dealership). That's what I did when I bought mine.

I have the MB extended warranty, so I don't know much about 3rd party ones.

And the price seems pretty good to me, especially if the powertrain warranty covers the head bolts.

I've emailed them and am waiting to hear back, most likely tomorrow since today is Sunday.

I am not able to extend the MB warranty if the car is at 56,??? miles and a 2009 correct? because its over 50k?

EDIT: Is it safe to assume that a 2009 with 40,000 miles will have it's factory warranty for a remaining 10,000 miles / 1 year? I'm also considering another one (2009 with 40k)

IIRC, the car has to be under orig factory warranty to extend it. there is also some debate as to whether or not you have to be the original owner.

a 2009 with 40k miles may not still be under warranty depending on its in service date. 09's came out in late '08, so if this particular car came out in 12/08, the warranty ran out in 12/2012.
