Car Stalling During Car Wash, Any Ideas?

Hi all,

I've had my car for 2 and a half months now, it's a 2013 C63 AMG with Performance Package. It does not have any mods or anything of the sort, so all stock.

I've gone through the car wash probably 5 times in total and never had an issue except for the last two times. The car wash I normally go to is called "Fullers Car Wash" if anyones heard about it and its not really touch-less but I've found this thread from a year ago and I'm not sure if its related at all:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-car-wash.html

The only difference between the first 3 car washes and the last 2 are that I selected Under wash and Wheel cleaning, which now that I'm thinking about it really seems like the culprit.

If anyone can confirm this that would be great, I'm having the MB dealership take a look at it tomorrow just in case.

Here are also some extra details about what I did going through the car wash:

- Car was in "C" or Comfort Mode.
- Car was in Neutral prior to entering the car wash.
- I was using Keyless-Go while going through the wash.
- Engine was fully warmed up and at operating temperature.
- Engine shut off about halfway through the wash and unable to start because Keyless-Go only allows you to start in Park with your foot on the break.
- Car started normally after exiting wash.

The high pressure wash can stall out your engine when the spray does the front pass. Shoots water directly into your Cold Air Intake and the engine stalls.
Solution: Turn off your engine during the wash>>>

Yea, I figured you'd say that

The only reason I don't turn my car off is because the track at the end sometimes doesn't push the car all the way off the track and repeatedly pushes the car forward and when I put my foot on the break it hits the tire pretty hard.

I really don't trust any other car wash around (sadly) so I guess the only solution would be to take the Keyless-Go button out before I go to the wash which is more of an annoyance if anything.

Exactly ^^

Solution: No under body rinse or hand wash your own car.

Personally, I never took my car to the car wash.. but I dont drive my car in winter though.

why would you take your car to a carwash that uses tracks? full touchless car wash all the way! I'm surprised your wheels have not be curbed up yet.

You'd be better off to start the winter with a good sealant, and just let it stay dirty. NO way I'd ever drive through one of those types of car washes. You might as well take a brillo pad to your paint.

i go to a full touchless wash maybe once a month to get the underbody cleaned from our road salt in Canada. I currently have the opticoat on my car so we'll see how that works out after the winter.

I myself use Mister Carwash and they have tracks. Employees do a decent job, and I have yet to get rash, even though the wheels/tires are wider than average and fit snuggly/tight on the track. My car's lip has maybe an inch in clearance from the track, and never have them hand polish/wax. I do opt for underbody wash. Did about 10 washes total and never had a problem.

Yea, I don't have an issue with touch washes, Fullers has a pretty reputable name here and I've never gotten any scraps or rashes. I'll probably just never do an under wash again...

Thanks for all the help guys, I'll try to find a good touch less wash near me.

i have made the mistake of going through such car wash centers for my black Audi A5 and trust me, you are doing a great disservice to your paint. I noticed millions of swirls and the cleaning process does more harm than good because of the high speed jet spray. Only hand washes for me from now onwards.

I wish I had time to hand wash my car every week, winter is the worst of seasons to hand wash a car sadly. Probably clues to the fact I shouldn't be driving such a nice car in the winter...

Could it simply be that the car cannot detect the key and is shutting the engine down??

No, I tried that yesterday. Surprisingly after you start the car you can drive off without the key... probably for as long as you want until you shut it off again.

Why would you even take the car to a car wash anyways? Wash it yourself

It would be different if I worked from home, unfortunately I don't and cant exactly bring car cleaning supplies to work as you'd simply imagine.

I'm not sure where you work (jiffy lube or similar probably) but at an office its just a bit different. Go pick on one of the other 1,000+ members that take their car to the wash every once in a while. And no, I bought my car FYI... what an ***.

And as a reminder this thread is about the confirmation of the car stalling in a car wash. Thanks thus far for anyone thats being helpful.

The jiffy lube that I work at still gives me Tuesdays and Sundays off. I still have time to give my car a rub down. In the time you spent responding like an *** clown to this thread and diligently checking into it to read some kind of ground breaking answer or solution, you could of washed your car and not still be whining about your stall issue.

The others members that told us they car wash their cars, we also provided them the obvious. Your car, your choice. Next time you roll through keep your windows down too as I am sure you have no time to dust your spedo glass...

Well you don't seem to have much respect for helping people on this forum in a nicer way which probably says a lot about you in the sense that you treat your crap (car and etc.) the same way.

Could have just said "Hey man, don't auto-wash, do it by hand" and instead had to personally attack me. I guess you get a kick out of it or something but thats cool, at least one of us is happy about flaming the other at the end of the day.

LMAO....Sure his car is clean but his wheels probably have curb rash from runing down the tracks at the car wash Why on earth would anyone take one of these cars through a car wash? You are just asking for trouble, lose a mirror, scrape a wheel, swirl marks from brushes if it's not touchless or a list of other things that could go wrong.

Bro, don't take you car through anymore washes, either do it yourself or find a place that does hand washes
