S Mode questions

hi guys,

i am new owners of a 2009 C63, just wondering will our car downshift automaticly when i am driving in S mode?

I drive my c63 it won't downshif when i slow down and wont get back to 1st gear when i stop in S mode.

for example: when i driving 60km/h in D4, due to trafic I stop, it still shows D4 on cluster and not downshif to 1st gear.

Is that right?

Cheers!

I assume you mean it doesn't blip on the way down? Also, it doesn't blip or go to first gear in C mode. Stupid question, but are you sure you aren't in C mode? If you are in S, then I'd say there is a problem with the electronics.

In C mode, if it doesn't blip while we manually downshift, is that bad for the engine? I know in S mode it rev-matches.... I don't know if manually downshifting in C mode will harm the transmission and engine...

bring up the AMG display and see what gear the car is actually in. D4 will still be displayed because that is simply the maximum gear it will allow the car to get into until you hit redline, at which point the car will upshift on its own. and if you are in traffic, S mode will not be as aggressive, so downshifts will happen lower in the rev range. try ripping on the freeway in S mode and then braking back down to the speed limit. it should sense that you are being more aggressive and downshift on the freeway pretty aggressively.

sounds normal. if you drive normal, the car will hold revs a little bit longer but it's not going to keep your car above 5,000 rpm all the time or something. drive hard, and its shift pattern will be more aggressive. the AMG display will tell you what gear your car is actually in. why they didnt make the gear indicator the size of the display with a digital speed readout under it is beyond me. I don't need to see oil and water temp all the time. in fact, with the analog water temp, I never need to see it. I wish I could just scroll to that readout whenever and have a huge gear indicator most of the time. try it out and tell us if your car seems normal....sounds like it is.

put it in amg setting on the dash to see which gear you're in or pull the upshot a few times... if it says d4 that means you're in manual override on the auto mode, not in true auto mode.
