Depreciation on 2011 C63 when w205 comes out? Buy now or wait?
What would you guys do... low mile 2011 has been offered at what I think is a good price, but of course, still not cheap. It is approximately 70% the price of a new 2013 with the same options. It has 10k miles on the clock.
I know we can't predict these things, but with the 2014 or 2015 w205 c63 just around the corner, with a big design change to boot, do you guys think this is a fair deal to jump on, or will i get absolutely smashed on depreciation as soon as the new one comes out?

You will get smashed, despite what fanboys may say about the 6.2L V8 being a collectors item, blah blah.
At this point, there is so much uncertainty regarding when/how/what - if your plan is to wait for the new model to come, you could be waiting a while.
The other thing to keep in mind, the 2011, while only a couple years old, is already pre-facelift, so it technically will be 1.5 MY behind the new version. If you're really concerned about depreciation, don't get an AMG that is <4yrs old, or compare the previous model's depreciation history to this one, add a few %/grand based on inflated MSRP & options costs, and build out a comparison. Not 100% accurate, but can set your expectations on what depreciation will likely look like for the C63 over the next few years or however long you expect to drive the car.
To answer your q regarding if its a fair deal, we need to know the specifics.

It is fully optioned including 19" wheels, mint condition, 13,000kms. Comes with remainder of factory warranty and CPO warranty thereafter for an additional 2 years and to 120,000km.
Priced at $52k + taxes. Think I can push to $50k.

2011 - C63 AMG
As nothing more than a reference point, I can tell you that I paid $60k for my 2011 C63 back in February 2012 and it has roughly 9k miles. It was delivered to the previous owner in August 2011 and original MSRP was $83k given the options he ordered on it (namely the AMG Delvelopment Package). Good luck!

81K Brand New. I waited 9 months from when I placed my deposit and got the car end of August 2011. I wanted the facelifted interior and MCT Tranny. The 2011 Brand New was the same price at time of my deposit. When I picked up my car the same 2011 was 76K... not much savings imo.

2011 C63 Calcite White
lol i bought my 2011 when the 2012 facelift came out. Bought it @ 81k MSRP aswell but i didn't care because i cared more about the aggressive look of the prelift
if your like me and don't care about old/new. Go for it! Prelift is going to be the sexiest C63 for the longest time Sorry this is subjective

the beauty of cars is that the longer you wait... the majority of cars will depreciate with price. especially with the w205 coming out, depreciation will be there big time.
however, that is c'est la vie no? to wait a bit and save some $$ you might lose this low mileage car. you need to ask yourself.... for 52k you buy this car... will you be as happy still if you later on see another car for a bit cheaper. if the answer is yes... go ahead and buy it.

This is exactly what I think to myself when I see posts about people buying 2013 C63s. As soon as that new model comes out, C63s they sold a few days before it came out will drop 30% immediately.
I remember when I got a 2006 Lumina SS. I asked those *** ers if a new shape was coming out in 07 and they said no. Well it *** in came out 6 mths after i bought it, the new shape came out and bang. 30% loss in 6 mths!!! I was pissed. Those fu ks even said they would buy it back after a year for 20% less. Fu k they did. They refused. Never got a Chevy again and never will. If you're gonna keep it for 5 years and abuse this **** out of it, go ahead. If you want to sell it in 2 -3 years and not get raped by depreciation, wait or rent or lease one for a year or two.

sounds like a good price to me. and i agree with fung ... cars depreciate. i know you were asking how much would it depreciate and not merely "would it depreciate", but cars are losing propositions unless you are buying a collector car. the price sounds good, so i say if you can buy it and you love the car, then go for it. i wouldn't worry about depreciation.

$57k for a 2011 CPO with 2k miles and ALL options paid in Aug 2012.
Warranty till nov 2017. I am planning on keeping this thing for quite some time.

As the 08-11 body style is aging, right now is a really beautiful time to buy, reason being - lots of the warranties are expiring, and thus causing the average price of our car to devalue at suction.
A majority of dealerships will base prices off top 10 selling prices based on auction and geographic location. But unless it's a benz dealer that really knows about warranty, you can get a steal.
I just picked up an 10' with 40k miles for under 40k, the fact that these cars (still in warranty) are now being seen for under 40k is a little remarkable. I'd say your deal is good, and you should go for it, like someone said previous, do you want to wait it out? I keep a car around 2-3 years tops, and if I love this car, I'll re-buy a new one when the time comes.
If I was in your possession, I'd take the used steal instead of driving off the lot and facing that depreciation.

You guys are all assuming the w205 is going to be an improvement, body style wise. After seeing the new E style, I wouldn't be so confident. When they "updated" the STi in 2008, everyone, mostly, hated it, in addition the new motor had issues as well. That made having a '04-07' model desirable, as it was a proven platform to mod. Also, any new gen version is going to have issues.

Buy it.
My guess is 15-20K depreciation in 2 years.
Extending the warranty will keep that on the lower side.
By then, if you like the W205 you can trade for one at your convinience.
You get into a sweet ride now, instead of being under pressure to buy when the W205 hits.

to wait to buy a demo W205 AMG... you'll be looking at at least a year and a half later. (amg models typically comes out a bit later than the regular models)... so yea... if you decide to wait.... we'll chat in 18 months lol
when i decided to buy a C63.. the whole process took me less than a week. actually it was more like 2 days. loved the car. found one in the right combo i wanted. test drove it and put in an offer. It's been a joy to own every day so far.... including today in my 30 minute drive from work. took a detour onto an open road with zero traffic... sun was shining and i gave the 6.2L engine an opportunity to stretch its legs. Beautiful.

I took the plunge... car is very nice, got a better deal than I thought possible... but why oh why are the bolsters so cracked on a car with about 11,000kms!?
Mercedes Nappa leather is just so delicate!
Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. Planning on enjoying this beast for quite a while!
