Question: AMG hood emblem installation

Hey Guys,

Bought an AMG hood emblem from Jbspeed
http://www.jbspeed.com/servlet/the-2...-Emblem/Detail

Having a tough time during installation. First of all, the instructions provided by jbspeed are incorrect. Here is the link that was given and i am glad I didnt follo w the instructions blindly. would have been a disaster if i had used a screw driver.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36738

I removed the stock emblem by popping up the hood and pressing the spring mechanism which hold the emblem in place. The problem is that the base of the aftermarket has greater diameter than the cavity where the stock emblem resides. Also, its unclear as to how to secure the metallic base in place (there is a pair of screw and nut provided)
Anyone has experience in doing this DIY? few pictures:

If you got the right emblem type, it should be as easy as removing the standard one.

The issue that is not clearly explained now that I look at the set I was unable to install... is that you have to remove the stock silver plastic emblem from the stock black "locking mechanism". You then have to mount the new disc onto that locking mechanism using the screws provided.

I'm going to buy a replacement oem emblem before I attempt this in case I muck it up.

It is also a little worrisome that the size appears to not be a direct fit. The silver disc that comes from JBspeed seems to be a little larger in diameter than the oem emblem.

Also, I'm not exactly sure how to disassemble the stock emblem without cutting it up.

My thoughts exactly! I think i might order a stock emblem before playing around. i tried to remove the spring mechanism from the stock emblem but it it wont budge and i thought i might break it.

unfortunately, the stock and the aftermarket emblem have different mechanism. the one from jbspeed does not have any spring mechanism, just the bottom heavy base and couple of screws.

This is what Brian said from jbspeed:

put the sticker on the plate. after you take the stock one off, you take the stock emblem off from the plastic thing then put the new one on with 1 or 2 screws then put it back on the hood

This can't be right

I figured it out -

not a perfect fit though.

Yank the black plastic piece off the stock emblem. it shouldn't break. the white tabs might break and u just have to push them out.

then get the new screws and emblem in it but don't tighten it because it won't lock to our cars because the hood isn't flat there and the metal piece is kinda fat.

once it's on the car and locked in, then tighten the screws. use some rubbing alcohol on the metal to get oil off of it. then stick the 3m part on.

I thought about buying the same one you have. Glad I didn't as it sounds too shady for me. Appreciate the heads up!

Bought mine off ebay and I'm very happy with it.
It fits perfect and install was easy as for the OEM.

Here is the link:

Looks like it's selling as a package of 2 now. When i bought it back in March 13 you could buy the hood emblem alone for 35$.

I bought off ebay as well and had no issues. I bought 1 for $35, it came from Japan, and went on in 45 seconds.

Also guys, there are different size diameter hood emblems. I'm sure that you guys knew that I just wanted to put that information out there.

I had the same problem. I emailed them and they told me I bought the wrong one. I bought three emblems from them and did not get a satisfactory fit.

same problem here. I understand how it is supposed to install but the holes are not offset correctly so im having to make some modification to it. got to love 15$ cheap crap that takes way too long to fit correctly.

Wish there was one available that has the modified A character that is present on all 2012+ cars.

The aftermarket has kind of fallen asleep on that one.
