JL Motoring Gruppe M Style Air Intake
Installed today.
Problem was no instructions on how to install. Maybe considered too simple to need to have them. Not sure. But I had problems getting the cover off the front. I ended up snapping the OEM cover trying to remove it. Not a huge deal as I was replacing it with the carbon fibre one they provided.
Secondly, the silicone hoses were so tight I could not get them on the intakes or the lower part of the airbox. So I had to use ones I had left over from another project that are just a smidge larger. Still hard to get on, but managed to do it. I wish the ones that came with it were black. But both the ones they provided, and the ones I ended up having to use are blue. I plan on using that 3M carbon fibre paper to cover these up so they are not so obvious.
One I got the silcone hoses on, the rest was easy. There is a lot of play because the air vents just fit into the front over. So you can wiggle them left or right, and up or down a bit. Once all bolted in things are fairly rigid. Which is what you want.
I also have the Carbonio airboxes, and engine cover. The engine cover, or the airintakes are not perfectly centred. There is a tad more space between the engine cover and the passenger side air intake than the drivers side. But I will play around with the engine cover when I install it and see if I can make it more uniform.
Lastly, I added a JP-Quality steering wheel badge on the air intake just to give it a good look. It did not come with the Ram air intake.

I like the Carbonio. It adds a great look to the engine. As for performance, if it does anything, it is only slightly. The Carbonio is really only the top of thre airbox. Not the bottom. In North American the airbox tops have an added carbon filter. So the Carbonio ones do not, much like what the rest of the world has. So removing this, and putting on a K & N filter probably got what ever performance gains were had.

The Carbonio engine cover does not come with an MB logo on it like the OEM one does. This is I suspect so they cannot get sued for infridging on their property.
So they suggest removing the one from the OEM.
Seems hard. So I bought a wheel cap off EBAY and attached is how it looks. Not a perfect fit but pretty good. I need to modify it for a better fit, but it is a good stating point.

Having a couple of issues.
I could never get their silcone hoses to attach. They are too tight.
So I got aftermarket, too loose.
Problem is one of them came off.
So now trying to get their hoses to work, and end up not being able to get them around the airintake except if I work at it from the inside. Whcih you can do on one end, but not the other. Result, cracked air intake along the seem line!!!
Any tricks to getting these things on??
Also noticed half the bolts gone. I assume from engine vibration they worked their way out.

Heat up a pot of water and slip them in there for bit. That will heat them up and make them a little more flexible. Then, some soapy water to help you the rest of the way.
Use gloves, they will be hot after the water and if you take it out of the water and wait for it to cool then that defeats the purpose.

Lots of tweaking. The passenger side RAM airintake was rubbing against the engine block, almost put a hole through the bottom of it. Screws popped out, silicone hoses did not fit, but fortunately I had my Gruppe M hoses for the intake for the Ferrari. Same diameter as the ones that came from JL, but thinner. So I managed to wedge them on.
Use if 3 M two sided tape to make sure the fronts of the ram intakes would not move around. Everything feels rigid now.
So finished pics here with the Carbonio engine cover installed.
So next project is the MA Carbon interior trim, and their carbon fibre mirrors. I still have a Vorsteiner carbon fibre rear diffuser coming as well.
So almost done. Almost.....

That's a lot of CF under the hood.. Looks yummy lol
Sounds like a lot of headache though. I would be afraid of air leak causing CEL.
