Update on my euro order: good news, bad news, mediocre news

Hi! Long time no talk! Hope you all are doing well

Good news: My little baby beast is done! Yay! Even has a VIN number and is awaiting pick up at the factory!

Bad news: So I dropped by the dealership yesterday just to see what the haps is and I asked to see my order and total since its been awhile. And to my surprise the wrong interior was ordered! They ordered the MB-tex/dinamica or whatever, instead of my two-tone porcelain/black interior. Oh boy...

Mediocre news: I called Herbert since he's out of the office due to sickness and he was able to get my new order in this morning. But he's unsure if they'll have the porcelain/black leather ready by my departure. So I'm crossing my fingers and will find out hopefully tomorrow.

So moral of the story... For one even though I ordered early to ensure enough time for the porcelain/black interior to be put in, crap still happened and the one thing I tried to avoid happened. Two for those of you going on euro delivery or just ordering in general double check your order as your delivery date nears because you might end up unpleasantly surprised when you get your car.

Dude! I'm sorry to hear about that. Keep the pressure on, or they'll owe you another trip! There are some folks who have gone through similar heartaches, but yours sounds less serious. Hopefully it'll get taken care of. When are you supposed to fly out?

Hi CoolBD! I hope so. It was just kinda yea shocking. Especially since it had a VIN and all. Luckily I don't fly out until may 20 so hopefully they will let me know soon because I need to buy my plane ticket. Blah.

Yeah, I'd push for it hard. I mean you could reject the car since it isn't what you ordered and they'd be in a pinch. 2 months should be enough time, I would think.

I mean they said its on order. But yea if I got there and saw the wrong interior I would have straight out rejected it. I really hope it is ready by may 20 or else I'm going to be waiting longer. Btw I just realized I ordered the chrome door inserts... What are your thoughts yay or nay on a diamond white exterior?

No I thought that was only for factory orders. So I was unpleasantly surprised when I decided I should get an update on everything.

I think they can do it in time since the car will stay there....then they would have to install the wire harness and buttons for the power passenger side seat...

I hope so. I really hope they don't end up starting from scratch because that was the impression I was under since I talked to my dealer. Although I'm not sure if I want chrome door handle inserts that I had originally ordered. Thoughts?

I'm not sure what part the inserts even are. I agree with James, it should be a simple swap of the seats. They'd just have to start a new set of leathers.

Found a thread with white...

https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/436786-can-chrome-door-inserts-removed.html

After a quick search, sounds like most folks aren't nuts about them, at least on dark cars. It's up to you, really.

Hmm if they are building a new one I'm going to see if they can delete that. I would rather invest those $90 in my door pins jeez the sporadic things I do in the heat of shopping. Thanks for your opinion and the thread link coolBD!

Changing options like you change shoes could be an expensive habit

i would skip the chrome inserts ... looks too 1980's aftermarket. and i agree with CoolBD about your interior; how long could it take them to swap that out? since they messed up, they should bump yours to the top of the priority list.

Hi Maximus! Thanks for your input on the chrome door inserts. I think you all are right, I'll e-mail Herbert right after this. I am wondering though if it is just a swap out or a full build for the seats? He made it sound like a full build. Do you think the rewiring for the automatic seats could be that much of a hassle that they would end up building a whole new one?

I just e-mailed Herbert about the chrome door inserts delete and I noticed in his e-mail from earlier he says, "This is how the car will be built next month" and attached was the order sheet. So I'm guessing this is going to be a new build?

I'd start talking to the GM or someone from MBUSA.

wow that sucks! hopefully they can do it but I think its more work than just seats, also have to do door panels and power steering column and full power controls. anyways it will be worth it I kind of regret getting mbtex seats because I miss the full power+memory function and easy exit/entry

Yea I have no idea. I guess I will talk to the GM or call MBUSA if this doesn't resolve itself through this new order. But I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. My head in all honesty is still kinda spinning then tack on school and I'm literally one step away from going crazy.

That's what I was thinking too. That's a lot of rewiring. And in all honesty one of the top reasons I am really adamant about the leather is because of the auto. I'm roughly 5'3 so I'm kinda short so anytime I go to the valet in my BMW they have to manually adjust it. The dealer just failed to tell us that my current car didn't come with auto seats. We figured that all luxury cars come with it, but now we know better. Plus my mom walks away faster than you can imagine once the valet people try to find the auto adjust button for the seats, she thinks it's embarrassing. But I'm sure you don't have my problem since you are a guy

I honestly don't know if i should be relieved or shocked. But I guess that brings my nerves down at least a little bit since they have dealt with this situation before and I am guessing they had it resolved in a proper manner. Thanks for the info

Interesting to know that the MB Tex doesn't come with power seats and memory. I somewhat prefer the Tex bc it is more durable than leather... my leather seats have all kinds of wear marks on them. Like yesterday I was returning a DVR box and placed it on my passenger seat, and it left impressions. Haven't looked yet to see if it bounced back, but i never had these types of issues on my C43 that had MB Tex.

dreams
i just did an ED and my SA advised me that the leather package would add 6-8 weeks to the delivery just because all the villages in SE asia are at capacity and have growing backlog of work.

verdict? i enjoy the mbtex / dinamica combo. its not as smooth or supple as real leather but the durability makes up for it. the alcantara-ish inserts look sporty as well. ultimately, i never think about whether or not i have leather when i get in the car. the drive, sound, and cabin design win me over.

bad news for you. you will have 4 holes in your bumper due to german laws .
