Long tube headers loudness ( x-pipes would help ? )
HI guys,
I had long tube headers and airbox Installed on the car ...
The sound Is a little too much for me ...
I was told adding the X-pipe would tone It down 20-25%
... Is there anyone here who experienced "before" and "after" the x-pipes ...
Does It really help and Is 20-25% realistic
Thanks In advance,
Cheers
Dominic

Need some more info, are you running primary cats or a cat delete? If you are running cats are they stock or high flow? Secondary cats or resonators? I run long tubes on both of my BS's with cat delete, x-pipe and high flow resonators, they are loud but not obnoxious IMO, only at WOT are they obnoxious. I have heard cars with no cats and no resonators and they are obnoxious

I've done the before and after x-pipe on MBH longtube headers with catless mids. I would say the noise "tone down" is more like 10%, not 20-25%. It helps a bit, but if it's too loud for you now, odds are it still will be with an x-pipe.

Agreed, long tubes plus hiflow cats is still very loud. X-pipes and or h-pipes will mitigate a fraction but not enough to alleviate the barbaric noise, giant resonators will help and perhaps two sets of mufflers per side. Catless is sheer lunacy! I kind of regret going the longtube route with supercharger. Got oodles of power with supercharger alone but now cars are so loud that I am afraid to exploit the throttle in suburban areas as it is almost embarrassingly loud. Only true enthusiasts appreciate it. To everyone else on the road you are simply an annoying obnoxious dikhead. I am still experimenting with ways to tone down my cars and have almost decided to go back to the old log manifolds!!

Here is a link, I am not sure if Merc63 still has these available but there are sound clips showing the difference.

I ordered the x-pipe from MHP ... I'm waiting for them
They said It would be 20-25% quieter,
For yourself, was It that much ? Or like others ... More like 10% or less ...
