Went to Dyno My C63BS and got 289hp?

Hey Guys,

So I went to dyno my car today and ran into an issue. They hooked my car up and ran 1 pull and came over to me asking if there is a special way to dyno this car as the peak HP was 280. I explained that we can put it into Dyno mode and go from there. The tech googled c63 dyno mode, put the car in Dyno Mode (we think) and the result was 289hp He said the car felt really slow to gain rpm's as if it really did have only 289hp. Puzzled, I sat in the drivers seat and saw this come up on the dash and would not go away (see pic) the tech then drove the car and said the light stayed on for about 100 yards and then went back to normal. I vboxed the car (while raining) and the car pulled a 4.3 to 60 which confirms the car does have more than 290hp. So what happened during my dyno??? Any thoughts?

It really appears that dyno mode was not used... but 289 is low even without it.

So what do you think happened? My car does appear to have serious power as verified by my v-box. I mean a 289whp car shouldn't be running 4.3 to 60 in the rain. I'm just trying to figure out why my car was having trouble on the dyno? Limp Mode? IDK.

Did you warm it up at all prior by driving hard? My 09 dyno'd significantly higher after each pull. I didn't do any hard driving prior, so each pull got higher (like 15whp+ higher).

I was driving the car all day running errands. It was 90 degrees out and very humid, but it should dyno for much more even in these conditions.

I see that the tach is @ 0 in the pic, but was the car running when all of those lights came on?

your car appears to be fine if you pulled a 4.3 in the rain.... I think when i first had my car dyno'd it pulled like 340 hp or around there because the operator didnt put in dyno mode...

Dynos are irreverent. Tuning tool only to compare pre and post mod and to dial in a set up. Ive seen 700whp+ vehicles barely break 400

Dynos show a lot of respect LOL---- I kid I know you meant relevant.

For me dynos are meaningful in the tuning world for perspective in gains before and after. They are in no means absolute measurements that will be backed up on the street though... The street is the best dyno.

I dyno,d mine before with a tune and it only put down 320 or something really low.

Couldn't explain it.

Sl63 was 5hp more than me on this Dyno, so I was happy.

That's not what I meant...run the car hard before the dyno.

Still way low but I experienced significant jumps after each pull bc the car was not driven hard at all for weeks prior. I was surprised, my point is maybe there is truth to the whole ecu learning thing after all.

My guess is you were on a Mustang Dyno. It's one of the lowest reading dyno's out there.

289 hp still sounds low for a Mustang Dyno.

My guess is operator error. Maybe try a different dyno with some familiarity with MB.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I'm going to re-dyno at another location at some point. The car is running strong as I ran a couple v-box runs again today just to ease my mind and got consistent 4.1's to 60 with serious wheel spin. I was just concerned about the light on the dash during dyno operation and the sluggish feel the tech experienced.

im guessing the guy who operated the dyno is the one to blame for sure if your car pulls 4.1 in rain. go to another location if possible for sure

Do you remember what gear the operator used?

I'm not familiar with the dyno part of your post, but I have some experience with the ABS & traction control brim inoperative message.

I experienced this error message when I was on an incline and decline. I had put the into park while at an angle and then put it back into drive; and the message came up. The car wouldn't accelerate and felt like it was in neutral. The second time it happened, I was pulling off a stop sign and the car felt extremely sluggish and I couldn't accelerate. I pulled over, turned off the car and back on...the car went nam to normal and the message disappear.

I explained it to my Indy MB tech and he explained it to me as a malfunction in the valve body in the transmission; something to do with the electronics.

I told this to the dealership because it was happening intermittently and quite more frequent. They checked it out for a week and said it was a problem with an air leak with the intake manifold.

I've had the car back for about a month now and no message/error yet. I could be wrong, but you may want to look into those two areas.

Thanks for sharing, I will keep a watch out for this type of behavior. Its sounds very similar as when he was doing the runs on the dyno, those lights were on and the car seemed sluggish. Interesting.

I just got my C63 BS dyno(Mustang dyno), and the tech was having problems, couldn't dyno in 5th gear due to the speed limit(155mph) the car will stop before reaching 6000rpm, so he did a pull in 4th gear and the max HP was 435hp.

I'm planing some modification, but don't know if I should get the car dyno again in another place?

Hey Moosejaw, we missed you yesterday, I thought you were coming. As for the dyno, I used a local shop 5 min from my house AWDmotorsports. They looked legit, but I guess I will bring my car to Ragetek next.

I'd say one of the following:

1] Incorrect weight used for dyno resistance.
2] Dyno brake stuck.
3] C63 applying brakes because traction control was on. (if it's even possible to dyno with traction control on)

That sounds about right. My stock BS dyno'd around 430 HP on 3 separate dynos doing pulls in 4th gear. I ordered headers, high flow cats and Xpipe. Will post results once parts arrive.
