Different airbox type on both sides!
I was just taking a peak at my air filtration system. I bought this car about 3 month ago and I was considering doing the "charcoal delete" and changing the air filter in the same process.
Once I opened up both airbox, one had the charcoal filter and the other not? Is this specific in canada? I am a bit confused.. Can this mean I had half of a ROW airbox mod? Should they be both the same?
Thanks!

Lol! Yeah looks like half ROW airbox mod to me. Never seen this before. Interesting...
Maybe something happened to the original box and it was replaced by a ROW box. I dont know just guessing!

Should I order only the missing side and get them both the same? I mean this MB has been serviced at the dealer always, if this was not normal wouldn't they have noticed when doing routine air filter replacement? What did you do?

Weired thing is we both have the same side that was the row and other side normal! I went all the way and replaced everything with my carbonio intake....that's the only reason I found out about the airbox difference was when I was replacing it at home.

If you're going to change 1, why not just change both at the same time.
The car I bought is/was stock when I purchased it, with stock filters, when I changed to the AFE filters, there was enough dirt, dust, bugs in the stock filters I had to sweep the mound up, the air box tops were different from each other just as pictured above.

I love it...dresses up the engine compartment very well and provides some mid to high end power increase from the butt dyno but not sure. the engine note is also different which I like very much. Install was fairly easy other than fitting one side of the maf sensors which required me to widen the port a little on the intake tube using a dremmel. I guess it was a molding issue with the one side. overall excellent intake and no check engine lights.

Hi folks,
I have 2010 E63.
have the same thing.
I contact the dealer / MBUSA to find out what is going on.
On the other hand, my friend's E62 (2010) has both charcoal filter.
weird.

Same thing happened to me. I discovered mine by way of a CEL.
I just ended up getting a row intake for the other side.

So it is safe to assume this came out of the factory like that, I still find it odd, since it would clearly have a different airflow on the left side and the right side. I guess its time to see if I can get only the right side airbox...! Well at least I am not the only one! lol!

No wonder my car used to pull left under hard acceleration...more power on left side...
